Why do I chew on tin-foil! It hurts, but addicting!?!

Question: Mmmmmm! I dont know why!

Answers: Mmmmmm! I dont know why!

Because you are addicted...why do heroine addicts shoot up when they're losing everything? lol no it's not that bad, it's just a habit, like biting your nails or chewing on your hair/lip they're all gross but people do them. You do it because you think it's an addiction (you even said it was addicting lol)...so mind over matter say it's gross, think of how your killing your teeth, research stuff about how gross tin foil is, anything lol just stop I don't think it's healthy.

that's just sick! Makes me cringe!

Oww!! That would hurt SOO bad!

I must admit, it's... kinda nice to chew on, lol.

Owwww!! just thinking about that really hurts. habit i guess you'll grow out of it.

EWW OUCH!

My dog used to do that. I had to put her down :( so sad

Dude, stop it. That crap isn't healthy for your teeth.

That's one of the strangest habits I've ever heard of! You'd better stop because there might be some chemical or metal in it that's poisonous to your body...let alone it's awful for your teeth!

Okay, I'm no clinician, but I think I have an insight into this. First of all - yikes! But I think it is similar to other types of addictive/compulsive/ self-injurious behavior.

I think you're attracted to it *BECAUSE* it hurts! I mean - how the heck can that hurt? That's what you're trying to answer. It's maybe that you can barely believe it actually hurt - so you do it again! Duh!

Like the sign - "Wet Paint". Who among us hasn't uttered "Yep - it's wet, alright!" We *have* to touch it. Just like when we see someone standing at an elevator. Obviously they've pressed the button. But....we just *have* to, to make sure!

In the interest of total honesty, I have OCD - so I can more than relate to having to battle with one compulsive behavior or another - and that @%^!@# urge that drives you to it.

You really should try and google something like (or yahoo it, heh heh, sorry!) OCD, trichotillomania, and (yes!) bulimia. The habit/ disorder of "cutting" may also have some psychological similarities - but I hesitate to guess as I really don't know what motivates that behavior.

Have you ever licked one of those 9-volt batteries? I think that's the type - with the circle and the broken up square sticking out on one end? As a kid, I just "had" to lick the square part. I couldn't figure out why this little battery could "zap" me like that! I've gotten over that one, believe me!

Maybe this can explain S&M as well - but - ahem! - we'll leave that for another post/ person/ site! Hope this was helpful - or at least interesting!

Sounds gross and bad for you. Stop doing it.

It can definitely hurt! It's called galvanic shock and happens when two different metals contact each other. It can "zap" you and you might get a funny taste in your mouth. When we learned about it in class, half of us started chewing on chewing gum wrappers just to see if it would do anything against our amalgam fillings!
