Braces question?!

Question: I got braces and wondered if you use whitening toothpaste before braces and stopped the morning before you got them put on will you have white spots? I know that whitening toothpaste used while in braces can give you white spots when it is taken off.

Whitening toothpaste does NOT bleach your teeth. It helps to remove stains so that they appear lighter. Only if you have used a bleaching system would your teeth actually have been bleached whiter. Also, bleaching systems are not permanent. It has to be kept up to keep the teeth whiter. It is better to do this after the braces come off and some dentists include bleaching as part of the braces. If you were only using a whitening toothpaste, then you should be fine. White marks that orthodontic patients get on their teeth are normally caused by neglect (not brushing well) and/or too much acid (Coke, Pepsi). These white marks on the teeth are actually around the perimeter of the bracket and eating around the bonding under the bracket.

Braces live your teeth mess up to begin with. so ya stop way before that.

No because the whitening toothpaste bleaches your teeth so they are always going to be like that unless you eat or drink something that will stain your teeth like coffee or tea. Just use regular toothpaste for now and then once you get your braces off then you can use whitening. Whitening toothpaste really isn't a tool used for dramatic effect so it's not going to make that much of a difference if you use it or not.
