Question:

Hi all
I have a real PHOBIA of dentist anesthetic, I was wondering if anyone new how long it stays in your body for ? I know in numbs you for 5 to 10 minutes but how does it leave your body ? And how long does it stay in your blood stream ?
How does this all work ? I have 5 teeth to pull out I'm in horrible pain and I need help big time , thank you all !

Answers:

We don't use novacain any more because of the allergic reactions that were found. If you are having 5 teeth removed you probably need to use epinephrine to help stop bleeding. Many times a dentist will give you a certain kind of anesthetic that will last longer after extractions to help you not experience pain too quickly. Anesthetic is metabolized through the liver and excreted through the kidney. Unless you have some problem with your liver or kidney it should be gone within a day.
