Can dentists tell if you are Bulimic?!

Question: Also, if they do find out, can they tell your parents?

Answers: Also, if they do find out, can they tell your parents?

When you induce vomiting frequently, stomach acid will eventually corrode your teeth, causing visable damage... a properly trained dentist will notice this and they may well ask you more about it.

Dependent on your age, and where you live depends on the action they take with parents/guardians... but if you are worried about your parents finding out I am guessing your are still hiding this illness... please get help. I used to be Bulimic and it still affects my life today... I am over the illness now, but if I'd got help sooner, I'd have been a lot healthier and happier than I have been.

Message me on this site if you need to talk. Take care.

yes, by the color of your teeth and gums

Please if you actually are bulimic get some help !!

Yes, though many don't notice. Depending on your state, your dentist may or may not be able to tell your parents. Also, most dentists aren't particularly supportive and have a tendency to say all of the wrong things, if they notice. Think about getting help. If now is not good for you, then mix up a water bottle with a solution of baking soda in water to rinse your mouth afterwards. That will help to neutralize the acids more rapidly and help to minimize the damage done.
Good luck. I hope you can get this under control

YES! By looking down ur throat and seeing its all messed up from things coming back up ur throat plus looking at ur teeth.

if youve been doing it a while yes.

Yes, the acid in vomit will erode teeth and cause cavities. I knew a former bulimic that racked up 15k in bills fixing her teeth from her former bulimia days.

yes they can. not sure if they will tell your parents, but i hope for your sake they do!

get help before you mess up your health permanently- binging and throwing up is not a long term solution to control your weight.

Im sure they can because vomit has many chemicals in it that is harmful to teeth. He may ask you why you are throwing up, and technically, no, he can't tell your parents, you are his patient, not your parents, but if you are bulimic, you really should get some help, thats not a healthy way to live, and you would be much happier seeing a therapist, or at least letting your parents know what you are going thru.

no

Probably yes. Stomach acid erodes teeth, and if there is a lot of damage your dentist will need to try and repair them the best he can. If your parents are paying for your dental treatment, I guess he will need to explain to them what needs to be done. :-)

i was v. worried about this.. u can lk at my earlier questions... at first no one noticed but recently i had to have a filling because of acid erosion... the dentist did not know it was bulimia.. they blamed my diet.... but i knew that this wos what i had done... i no bulimia feels easier in the long term but i always try not to purge now cos i no wot it does... jus cut down on cals fd luck!

Yes, they can. I'm guessing you're bulemic yourself. They may offer you some advice as to how to deal with the problem e.g. if you're in the UK they may advise you to seek help from the NHS. However, whether they can tell your parents I don't know - it depends if you're over or under 16 I think however there is always confidentiality. If you are bulemic then it's best to tell someone e.g. a trusted friend or family member (don't be afraid - they won't think any less of you - they'll be honoured that you'd confided in them) or the Samaritans. I've googled for a while and found some websites that you may find helpful.

yes your dentist can have a very good guess if your bulimic if you make yourself sick your stomach acids will start to wear the the enamel off the inside of your teeth may ask you about it but wouldn't necessarily mention it to your parents but if you are bulimic try and get yourself some help honey
