Getting my Wisdom Teeth Out?!

Question: I'm getting all 4 of mine out tomorrow. They are impacted and I'm getting the laughing gas.
My questions are, how painful is the recovery, and is there any possible way I would want to go to a party the day after(friday)?

My questions are, how painful is the recovery, and is there any possible way I would want to go to a party the day after(friday)?

I had all four of mine pulled at once, but I got knocked out.

I went to a party either the following day or the day after.(definately rode my bike the next day) I had to watch what I ate, but that didn't stop me from going. Before I had them pulled on a Friday, people at work said I wouldn't be in on Monday. I was, no problem.

I would definately suggest keeping an ice pack on your face for as long as possible (I just went from side to side, when one side went numb, I switched to the other, back and forth) that first day/night; it helped keep the swelling down (it visibly swelled in the time it took me to get undressed and into bed, my mother literally doubled over laughing at me).

So, in the end, there is a very good chance you will be able to go to the party. You will know best how you feel, and if you are up to it.

Just don't take the pain pills (I only needed them for a day or two) and drink, alright?

It is actually quite painful, the recovery that is. The surgery, what they will usually do is put you out with anesthetic. It takes about a week to fully recover, 2 weeks to recover to the point where you feel like doing anything. So I guess its up to you.

id kill myself before getting my wisdom teeth pulled again

You may be a little sore and swollen, after you get them out, put ice on the area, you might also be a bit uncomfortable, so take your pain meds..

See how you feel afterwards, everybody is different when they get their wisdom teeth out.

it is not to terrible.

i donno about gas, i got put out completely...

But i was up and walking around and feeling perfectly fine within 5 hours. The next day was a bit sore but after that i was good.

I went to homecoming 4 days later. And all 4 of mine were impacted.

hope that helps.

cancel the party - you will not be feeling very well I am sorry to say - you will be on strong pain killers and feeling pretty horrible probably. But in the end it WILL be worthwhile so hang on in there - you will be avoiding a lot of problems and expense later in your life.

Good Luck

Not likely, as you will be very puffy and potentially still in some degree of pain

oh honey no you'll be down..and they're only giving you gas?! they're not putting you out?!

getting your wisdom teeth out is a terrible thing i got all 4 of mine cut out this past summer and i couldnt eat anything for about three days...

im so sorry i know how it is..

It just depends on the person. For me, I was out for a good five days. I also had an allergic reaction to the pain killers they gave me. I felt horrible, but I lost eight pounds from not being able to eat! I don't think you'll want to go to a party, even if you have no problems, your cheeks will be pretty swollen. sorry

Absolutely NOT to the party. I had all 4 impacted out and when I got home I was in NO pain. I thought this was great so I threw on my bikini and hit the pool. With in 30 minutes I was throwing up and bleeding like crazy. So, moral of my story, surgery is surgery and you need to recover no matter how you feel. Take it easy!!!

Yeah its going to hurt...sorry. You will need 2 full days of rest and ice packs b-4 you will feel comfortable. You should make your party OK

You will probably not be up to going out, even if you take it remarkably well. I have known people who were just sore and woozy, and then I have known others (such as myself) who were in agony and out of commission for a week! Most people are somewhere in between the extremes. It all depends on how you react to the anesthesia, whether the teeth are impacted, etc. Make sure you have someone to take care of you just in case you don't handle it well.

Good luck! Get well soon!!

Honestly, I had 2 of mine taken out and felt no pain what-so-ever after they were out. I wasn't really given any pain meds outside of Motrin 800. After I got mine out, I was at the bar that night drinking a few beers and had no issues. So, you should be fine.

Make sure you will be taken corticosteroid for three days, starting the morning of the surgery. The recovery should be easy if steroid was taken properly (18 mg tapered dose over three days). The smaller the cut, the faster the removal, the less traumatized and bruised the surgical area will be. If all four teeth were removed within 20 minutes, perfect delivery. If you spent more than 30 minutes and up to more than an hour, your face will be swollen tomorrow. The rule of thumb is after the suture has been placed, the surgical site should look as if there is NO surgery done. I have done over 3000 cases of full bony surgical extraction and this is an honest truth.

Don't go yo the party. You will look and act like you are drunk and, most of all, with all that cotton filling those holes and the swelling you will not be half as attractive as you are. Plus you will be loopy from the pain pills.

Hey Kathy! I had the same thing happen to me. I'm glad you're getting the laughing gas. It's the best way to go out. :) You'll be really tender for a few days in the empty gums where your teeth were, and you'll also be really exhausted. All you'll want to do is sleep for the next two days. I doubt you'll feel up for the party. I had to be wheelchaired out of the dental office after the operation, and didn't feel like moving until three days later. You won't be able to eat certain foods for a while, either.

Something very important you must remember is the antibiotics! This is more important than anything! I think you'd be better off if you went to three parties the first three days you get out then to even skip one dose of your medication afterwards! Why, you ask? Well, you're going to have four big pits in the back of your mouth, and no matter how much mouthwash you use they're likely to get infected. This is normal, but it is not pleasant! You will likely have some nasty eruptions where a grey fluid that tastes like sweetened motor oil will be ejected into your mouth. The antibiotics are the only way to stop this. I skipped a couple of doses, and the eruptions got absolutely horrible, plus I had to change my pattern of taking them, once every twelve hours without food, so like 2:00am every night until they were gone. Sorry to be so graphic, I just don't want you to experience that. Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Hope things go smoothly, and that you get well soon.

No Way!!! I had all 4 of mine removed about 5 years ago, also impacted... I was awake and heard EVERYTHING! The prospect of a party, the noise, the people, the FOOD.....You wont even WANT to go, so dont worry. The pain is a HIGH moderate level, you WILL swell a bit, and you cant...or shouldn't, I should say...eat any hard or even solid food.... but you'll be back to yourself within a week...week and a half...Tops!

Procedure is painful. Recovery is also for one week. But don't worry they will give you a good pain killer.
Yes You can surely go to party

well, depends on the depth of impaction. I know people that have had theirs out and were swollen like chipmunks for a few days. and then there are folks like myself.... had two done, (bottoms), and went to work the next day with no problems.

There will be stitches, try not to play with them. NO STRAWS!! The sucking motion can pull stitches out. No smoking for much the same reasons. You might not feel like a party though..... certainly don't drink while on the medication they will give you. Just try to take it easy for a few days. Ice sometimes helps, (ice pack your jaw, NOT suck on ice cubes.)

Look at it this way, you will be fine in a week or so and in ten days or so you'll be back to completely normal. (except for the holes you'll have which can take up to 6 months to fill in.
A week, in the scheme of things is no big deal.

My advice? Ther'll be other parties. Stay home with a good book.

yes go to the party if it was a halloween party due to the fact you will be as swollen as a chipmunk with nuts in his mouth and not to mention the pain so no
