When you go to the dentist for ONLY a regular cleaning, do they always have to t!

Question:

When you go to the dentist for ONLY a regular cleaning, do they always have to take xrays?

I am just wondering if maybe a dentist or a rda could answer my question. When i go for just a regular cleaning of my teeth, do they always have to take xrays of my teeth? Why if i am only going in for something simple and not complicated? Or is it that they just want to charge my insurance more money for the xrays? Are the xrays needed for a cleaning or am i getting ripped off?

Answers:

They will usually take bite wing xrays either every 6 months or every year, depending on your frequency of cavities and the condition of your mouth.

They do need to take these. This is the only way to see many cavities, as they are not often visable to the naked eye.

They take them at the cleaning/exam visit so that they can catch problems early and prevent them from getting worse. If xrays were not taken until you had pain or other problems it is usually too late to do a simple filling.

Not having regular xrays done can lead to major work, and larger copays. As long as your insurance covers it you are actually saving money in the long run!
