Bump on lip?!

Question:

Bump on lip?

Ive been dipping off and on for about six months. About two days ago i noticed a little white bump where i place the dip, about the size of a sharpened pencil tip. Its a little bit hard, and not very painful. Ive been told that dippers get calluses after dipping for a few months, but im nit sure that this falls into the category. What do you think it is?

Answers:

Yes, dipping causes the tissue to begin to hyperkeratinize over time. Just like keratin in the skin. The keratin thickens due to the constant irritation/abrasion/trauma from the dipping. Keratin is white when it thickens things get whiter/rougher/thicker/etc. Over time it can make a dippers pouch causing a large white area that can become cancerous and turn ulcerous. Nicotine is filtered in cigarettes and not in dip. It goes straight into the gums and into the blood system and straight to the brain. The gums absorb much of the cancerousness of dipping. Many people think dipping is safer than smoking but this is not true b/c the dip is absorbed faster and is not filtered. Also, would you rather loose a lung or a jaw?
If you are going to dip you should rotate the place you hold the dip at to lessen cancer chances. Leaving the dip in the same spot every time puts more cancer causing stuff in that place. Instead spread it to other areas of the mouth to reduce risk of cancer.
