Smoking in restaurants?!

Question: Why do restaurants place the non smoking tables so close to the smoking section? One time I went to a restaurant and the hostess seated my party right across from the bar. I asked the hostess before she left if she was sure this was non smoking since it was so close to the bar and she said that it was. Pretty dumb if you ask me. Why would a customer who has requested non smoking want to sit right next to the bar that is smoking? Why do restaurants try to sit people there to begin with? They should know that if someone ask for non smoking that they want non smoking not a table right next to the smoking section.

This really aggravates me because their have been times I have waited close to 20 minutes for a table and the hostess tries to sit me near the smoking area. I got to where now I try to avoid restaurants that are real busy that are notorious for trying to sit customers in the semi non smoking area.

I fully appreciate your complaint. What I do is if they smoke I don't go and I let them know that they are losing business. If they want to cater to smokers only, that is fine with me but I will not spend my money there. I see alot of people on a daily basis and I will certainly tell them about establishments that do not cater to non smokers. Health is important and we do not have choices when it comes to breathing, but smokers do have a choice. Good Luck.

they dont let smoking in restraounts cuz the smoke can get in to peoples food and it smells real bad and also cuz peopel can in hale the smoke

That's why I'm glad they passed the no-smoking thing here in Florida.
All restaurants and things like that are non-smoking. You have to go outside.
I love it

And it's not like it matters where you sit in the place anyway..That smoke is everywhere

My state banned smoking in restaurants so we no longer have that issue!! But I wondered the same thing.

there shouldnt be smoking, because over 1/3 of americans are ellergic to smoke. it makes the restaraunt look bad and smell bad, they try to divide people up in different areas, but smoke moves from place to place.

Not a problem in Australia, where smoking is banned everywhere justabout except out in the alleyway next to the dumpster in the rain.

I live in Illinois, beginning Jan 1 there will be a no smoking in public places law that carries fines up to $250. If you are serious about this contact the American Lung people, American Cancer people, local health agencies, state lawmakers, etc.

people should go outside to smoke

kill yourself not everyone else

thats why i'm glad to live in ohio where we have the smoking ban law ;-)

Honestly hun, I think it has alot to do with the SIZE of the restaurants. I mean they can't just rebuild the whole thing just because of the smoking rules that took effect. That would make them lose ALOT of money, and running any establishment including a restaurant costs alot of money and takes alot of time to maintain, let alone build, so a bunch of arrogant, vain, whiney, low-IQ customers that come in and complain make no difference. You can just leave. You're a number, and another person will come in that probably won't complain, so if you have a problem, either deal with it, or take your disgruntled **** out of their establishment. They don't care.

I said it in a harsh way, because that's how THEY view it, believe me, I worked in restaurants, and mingled with the hosts, owners, waiters/etc etc. They don't care.

Why?

Because 1) they care about their salaries
2)Running the business
3)their own lives/families

Hun come on, you can complain, and yes it's pretty dumb that they sat you right by the bar, but technically if they sat you in a NON SMOKING section then they really broke no rules. All you can really do is complain, which won't get you anywhere.

Nowadays though, in many states they should have banned smoking altogether.

And hun, you can nit pick, blacklist, and calculate your way from all the smoking/non smoking/bad/good restaurants you so dearly want, but the end result is that: they really aren't going to change, and there's technically nothing legally wrong with that they're doing. At all.

It kind of sucks because it's not helping much to you guys, personally I'm not a smoker and I can't be around it, I have asthma, but there's nothing you can do. This is why many are banning smoking altogether.

Obviously you can voice complaints, etc, but you really can't do anything right then and there.

Life throws many battles at us, choose them wisely, and believe me with this, it's really not worth it.

I know...they do this to me and I have two kids! I always request a different table.

I live in a city where we finally passed a law where there is no smoking in public places, bars, resturants, ect... It is wonderful!

I wonder why smokers can not just go in some place and eat than have a smoke outside when they leave the place. I can not eat in any place that has smoke init. If I do I will be running to the hospital. Wither you are a smoker or not you should think of others cause like me there are people that your smoke could kill.

All of these "I wonder why this and that???" when I'm wondering why this question is in the dental category?

If you are concerned with the smoking laws in your state, talk to your legislature.
