Is it bad for your teeth to brush longer than 4 minutes?!

Question: Nope....if you are brushing manuallly, using a soft toothbrush and the proper technique.

It is infact, 3-5 minutes is recommended to remove the plaque from your teeth and 2 minutes with a powered toothbrush.

When you brush you are suppose to angle the toothbrush towords your gingiva to get into the sulcus (the gingiva at the neck of your tooth that is unattached) if you do not have recession, if you do have recession you are suppose to angle your toothbrush on your attached gingiva. Then brush using short back and forth vibrations, make sure you do not push hard--> this is a partial cause of recession.

The main goal of brushing your teeth is to remove the plaque that is accumulating. Plaque is bacteria and uses the food we eat to strive, so if you get rid of the plaque a couple times a day, it can prevent decay, gingivitis, and periodontitis.

Any questions? Just ask and I can try to answer them with the knowledge I have learned so far in school.

Not for your teeth, no.

Your gums, yes.

Brushing too long or too hard can cause gum erosion. Dentists say you should brush for about 2 minutes. 1 for the top teeth and 1 for the bottom.

yes.. actually its like u shd not scrub ur teeth as if cleaning some object..or else u will damage ur enamle..that is the protective layer of ur teeth n then u will have to see a dentist cos u will not b able to drink even water bcos of that painful sensation on the tips of ur teeth..
u r supposed to gently move ur brush in every direction smoothly touching each area of ur teeth n gums.. n just gargle thats it..
so do it rightly n enjoy..

It's rather pointless, since if you haven't cleaned them sufficiently in two minutes, you're not going to do any better by stretching it to four minutes. And as you'll soon discover, gums are delicate things that don't take well to prolonged scrubbing. When they hurt and bleed, you've gone too far.
