Wisdom teeth removal post-op advice?!

Question:

Wisdom teeth removal post-op advice?

I just had my wisdom teeth removed two days ago and I'm super scared of getting dry sockets. I followed all my dentist's post op instructions but nowhere in them did he say to avoid carbonated beverages or semi hard foods. I bled for the first 12 hours, which is abnormal I think, though it was not serious bleeding. And the second night when I brushed my teeth, I bled again even though I didnt even approach the area. The weirdest thing is I haven't had any pain at all. I"ve been on painkillers but have hardly taken any because I feel perfectly normal. But the amount of blood that I lost makes me feel like I'm in for a dry socket soon because my dentist had said that often those who get dry sockets feel fine the first two days then the third day bear pain of ridiculous proportions. Is my total lack of pain and abnormal bleeding a sign that dry sockets lay ahead?

Answers:

It's supposed to bleed, because there are stitches in your mouth holding it all together. It's going to be painful, that's why the doctor gave you the pain killers and make sure you take all the pencillin that was given so you don't get an infection. And take them all until they are gone. I would avoid sodas and carbonated stuff because it might interfer with the stitches. I'd stick to soft foods, like macaroni and cheese, yougrt, ice cream, and drink orange juice, milk, juice, etc. you can't do much about dry sockets, but just let your doctor know if you are in a ton of pain. The bleeding might have been because you brushed your teeth the next day and it could have hit the stitches or moved them so it made you bleed. My doctor told me not to brush my teeth for a few days so it wouldn't be painful. It sucks not to, but your mouth doesn't open very much so it'd be hard to. Just call your doctor if you think you might have dry sockets or the symptoms and they could help you.
