Does playing the clarinet cause an overbite?!


Question: cause in order to play you have you put your front teeth over the mouth piece, and bite down. would playing my clarinet give me an overbite??

i used to wonder that and be glad that I played trumpet...
but no, you would have to walk around for at least half the day w/ a clarinet in your mouth to move your teeth.

I've seen older men who smoke a pipe move teeth... like they make a little "slot" for tthe pipe stem to fit into, but that's doing that a couple times a day for YEARS....

i have been playing since 7th grade now i am a freshman in college..still dont have an overbite...dont think so

no it won't give you an overbite. That has more to do with the jaw being misaligned.

No, unless your playing it 24/7.

No, an overbite is usually caused by tongue thrusting (or the tongue constantly pushing on your front teeth). Playing a clarinet is only done a small amount of time in a day....the strong tongue muscle goes on 24/7.
