Answers:

You are referring to "sectioning" the tooth.

The dentist will "lift" or "elevate" the root pieces out with an instrument.

It will be no different than when you've had drilling done for a filling. This is how the tooth is separated or "sectioned" by drilling through the crown portion of the tooth, separating it where the roots begin. More or less making the tooth come apart into several pieces for an easier removal.

As always there is pressure with an extraction but it should be nothing that is painful. If at any time you feel something sharp or painful, raise your left hand and your dentist will stop and administer more anesthetic. This rarely happens, most patients think they are having pain when it's really just the unexpected noise that scares them. So you should expect to hear some popping or crackling noise, this can't be helped and occurs when the tooth is being removed from the boney socket area.

I think it is actually easier to remove a tooth that has been sectioned. So try to relax, I'm sure you are in good hands with your dentist and he will take excellent care of you for a painless procedure. Good luck and follow all post op instructions for a quick recovery.
