Braces?!?!?!?!
Question: ok so im gonna get braces in like a month:( but i seriously dont want to, i already have glasses and dont want braces too!!! and im also scared cause everyone says that theyre gonna hurt alot, soo has anyone had them?? what was it like?? help??

Hey! Don't Be afraid one bit! See, I get my braces in 6 days and I will look like a total nerd. I have glasses as well, so people will see me as a total nerd. But, I have realized that having braces and glasses isn't a big deal at all. I know like a million people at our school who have glasses and braces and I don't think they look like nerds. I barely notice them. Trust me, I don't think anyone will make fun of you.
About the pain factor, I have heard some nasty things about that. So far, I have come up with a few tips:
1. The Pain. I have seen videos where people cry because it hurts so much and I have seen videos where people are totally fine with them. I guess it entirely depends on your pain tolerance. If your teeth are sensitive, expect about 1 week of pain. If they are normal with pain, expect 2-4 days. I would suggest using the wax that the ortho would give you and also use lots of advil.
2. Getting through it. I think you should use pain killers (mentioned above). Also, in order to minimize your dining experiences (pain), I suggest you eat soft foods. I loaded my cabinet with applesauce, pudding, yogurt, sorbet, spaghetti o's, clam chowder, and mashed potatoes. Stay along the lines of these and you shouldn't be in too much pain.
3. You won't die. Your teeth will be sore, but the pain is NOT unbearable. Just remember how great your teeth will look at the end! Also, imagine yourself with contacts and it will be a whole new you! Trust me, that is what I am doing, and I am prepared for the next two and a half years as a braceface!

yes they do hurt, but you will bare the pain , it's not a lot .
depending on your teeth, it will take a certain amount of time for the braces to do their work. my teeth looked like a vampire's ( lol) so it took me three years, while my friend had her braces for little less than a year.
you will have to go through the pain and wait and see the wonderful results...it's worth it. so good luck! :)
I had them for eight years. Sometimes there is a lot of pressure while they move, some tylenol or aleve usually helps.
yes im getting them to but id rather bare the pain than have messed up teeth for the rest of my life, and also they are rather than having corrective surgery
I got braces a year after I had to get glasses. And, yeah, I looked like a geek but I lived. It sure did hurt but in the grand scheme of life it didn't bother me that much. The major pain comes a few hours after they put the braces on. Woah, was I unhappy. But it's nothing painkillers can't handle. They were sore for a week but the major pain subsided after a day or so. Then they hurt when you have them tightened every month. Just for a day or so and not as bad as when you get them on. It's worth it to have nice teeth. I've had my braces off for 18 years & my teeth still get compliments! You'll be fine. Having braces was nothing compared to the pain of being a woman, & you'll never have to know what that's like, so don't be a baby. It's really not that big of a deal.
ok...well for starters, i just got braces too! yes, they do hurt for about a week, and you can't eat much besides ice cream and really soft foods. (trust me, you can't.) but you will get used to them, no matter how much you doubt it, and just remember that almost everyone has to have them at one time or another!! plus, you're teeth will look nice and straight when you're done :)

Hello! I got braces on Thursday and they didn't hurt just touchy and a bit sore! I am used to it preety much now! I can't tell you that it won't hurt for you because it is different for everyone! Braces are temporary and when you get them off your teeth will be AWESOME! Just make sure to keep them clean and don't use whitening anything including toothpaste because they can leave PERMANENT stains! You can buy a oral b dual clean elecrtic toothbrush for 20 bucks! You can also get a waterpik that's great for braces! Use a floss threader (you will know what I mean when you get them!) and brush 3 times a day for 3 minutes! Follow your orthodontists instructions and don't eat the bad things on the NO-NO list!
What I got from my orthodontist was wax, something called an interproximal brush, toothbrush, floss and floss threaders, and sore rinse thing!
Buy ACT mouthwash! Enjoy your new smile!
p.s. If you get spacers or when you get braces and it hurts, EAT SOFT FOODS! Like mashed potaoes, soup, jello, ice cream, smoothies, etc... And who cares if you have braces and glasses! People won't just be staring and pointing because everyone is gettting braces AND glasses nowadays

they do hurt, i just got them 3 days ago, i feel like my teeth r gonna be ripped out, but u'll get used to it, my friend says the pain went away after two weeks. and he also said after u get them tightened, they'll hurt for less time each time u get them tightened. i personaly hate my braces, not cause they look bad, i don't care about that, just cause they feel horrible, i can't even chew my food, i have to try to crush it with my tounge and swallow my food... plus i have to surgically remove 4 of my wisdom teeth...so i got it bad... i hope u do better than me :s
i had braces and it does hurt im not gonna lie, before the appointment take an alive so it can start workin before the pain sets in. you can get contacts. you wont look that bad and just think in a few years you will have beautiful teeth and if you get contacts if you dont like the way your glasses look on you, you will be a real go getter. hope this helped. peace
I just got braces and do not look like a geek at all. I have found that no one really cares about your braces but you. They see them and that is about it. Other people do not spend all day thinking about your mouth and braces. You will be fine.
Just look forward to revealing the new you at the end of the process, you could even get contacts then and really reveal a totally new look.
