Difference between Phos Flur and ACT?!

Question:

Difference between Phos Flur and ACT?

I recently went to the store to get a fluoride rinse and saw both Phos Flur and ACT. The Phos Flur was $12.99 and the ACT was $4.99. Is there a reason for the price difference? Does Phos Flur work better or contain more fluoride?

Answers:

Phos-Flur rinse is 0.044% acidulated phosphate fluoride.

ACT is 0.05% sodium fluoride rinse.

There is not a significant difference in the concentrations of available fluoride in these products. The APF formula is supposed to "open up the pores" and allow greater penetration on fluoride into the tooth.

Here is one study(abstract) that shows the acidulation increases fluoride uptake by more than 10%. http://www.colgateprofessional.com/colga...

Phos Flur has studies to show that it works better and APF rinses are the product usually found in dental offices because they work better.
