Should you whiten your teeth WHILE you have braces on?!

Question: i got braces in june of 07. and i dont want my teeth to be yellow when i get them off.
but im not sure if i should be trying to whiten them beacause i dont want to have yellow squares where the brackets are. do you think i should keep whitening them or just wait another year and a half until i get them off and then try?

Actually, when I had braces I would brush my teeth with baking soda (put a dash of baking soda on your hand, wet your tooth brush, dab the tooth brush in the baking soda, and brush away, then rinse with water) and that would keep my teeth a decent shade of white, and when i got my braces off my teeth looked fine, no little square in the middle.. just don't try and use crest white strips over your braces.. (i would do the baking soda after brushing my teeth with normal toothpaste of course).. also you could use toothpaste with whitening agents in it

No, when you have them taken off, you'll have a weird little spot where they used to be. So you'd have to get a second cleaning. Just don't do it.

Whitening will NOT work with braces. Your teeth won't be yellow when the braces come off, so don't worry about that. And even if you did try to whiten ur teeth with braces, nobody would be able to tell you'd whitened them because the braces cover your teeth. I'm sorry, but for your sake you'll have to wait! Don't try it! In the meantime, brush, floss, and rinse with mouthwash to prevent plaque buildup, the cause of cavities, yellow teeth, and bad breath.

just wait. you don't want you teeth to be two different shades when you get them off do you? hah. i just got braces. i am getting them bleached right after i get them off.

i got them june 06, and my orthodontist puts fluoride on them. use fluoridex (sp?) toothpaste if you can, or just fluoride toothpaste. don't try to bleach them - you'll have discolored squares on your teeth. Just brush well and ask the orthodontist or dentist to fluoride your teeth at the visits.

I had braces too, do not use the over the counter whiteners. Instead get your dentist to whiten your teeth using their own safe methods.

After you get your braces off make an appointment to get your teeth cleaned right away. My orthodontist provided that service for me for free.

Usually people get them whitened soon after they get there braces off
otherwise under the brackets will be yellower then where you whitened them

well, its kinda hard to keep them on, and then when yourbraces come off, theres a possibility that you will have stains, cause the whiten stuff cant get under your braces, so just wait, when my sister got her braces off and used whitening strips, the stains (that im not saying you will have!) were gone!

no you shouldn't white your teeth while you have braces on

that's like getting tan sprayed on you while you have clothes on LOL

Wait till the braces come off. I don't think a dental professional would even do that when someone still has braces on. It wouldn't make sense. The teeth exposed to the whitener will be a different shade than the teeth under the brackets. Do it all at once so the color is uniform.
