Should I demand braces a second time?!

Question: I recently changed to a new dentist who bashed my old dentist (they worked across the street from eachother). He declared that my teeth were utterly horrible and told me that an open bite from my braces is unacceptable. It's an open bite...but um...my teeth on the left and right of my front teeth are too short to touch eachother...

First of all, it is unethical for one dentist to bash another dentist's work! Your new dentist did not see your case before you started your braces and didn't see your final result. There are many mitigating factors that can cause you to still have an open bite. Did you wear your retainers? Did you have habits, such as a tongue thrust that weren't corrected? Did the other dentist suggest jaw surgery and you didn't want that option and were willing to try with just braces? Did you wear your elastics properly?

And most importantly, were you happy with the result before this new dentist told you that it was a bad job? Do you feel you need to have braces again? If you are eating fine and don't have any pain, then it is an aesthetic issue, and that is totally personal. One person can think it looks fine, while another doesn't like it.

For example, look at Madonna. She won't fix her diastema for anything! It's become her trademark. Same with David Letterman. Is it orthodontically correct? No. Do they NEED to fix it? NO.
