What is the best way to clean my retainers?!

Question:

What is the best way to clean my retainers?

I recently got two retainers for my teeth and I've been lying them both in my sink and filling the bottom of the sink with hot water mixed with Listerine and letting them soak like that. Is this damaging my retainers? What is another way that I could clean them without messing them up?

Answers:

The above two answers are correct. I recommend my patients use baking soda daily and then soak the retainer in denture cleaner about 2x a week [just use the cleaner longer than the directions say]. If you still notice a hard deposit building up on the plastic then soak them in vinegar until it softens or dissolves. Keep wearing your retainer at least thru your late 20's to avoid tooth relapse OK?
