Is it normal to have braces on when you've just turned 15?!

Question: It's so unfair, my second fang hasn't grown meaning I couldn't get my braces on, so my question is, is it abnormal to have say your braces on at 15 and off when you're 16 and a half?

It seems like everyone i know has had there's off....
I'm in tenth grade

It is totally normal. A lot of my friends had their braces around the time you're talking about. In fact, a few of then only got them at the age you're due to have them off.

Don't worry about it - enjoy the cool colours you can choose from, and look forward to that beautiful smile that'll be the envy of all your friends :-)

I had mine until I was 17.

Ha! I am 17 and in the 11th grade and I haven't got braces yet :p

Yes, that's normal.

yep, had mine through senior year in HS

Sure, why not.

whats normal and what ain't is all up to you.

I am 20 years old and a sophomore in college and I am about to get my braces off next week, so trust me it could be worse. Just be lucky you are getting the off before your senior pictures, junior/senior prom, graduation, and first day of college. good luck!

no it's not wierd. there are lots adults even with braces. I hada few friends that had braces until they graduated high school. in a way you are lucky. I got my braces when I was in 5th grade and I didn't get them off till I was in 10th. Talk about unfair.

There were several people in my graduating class that had braces on. Not to mention my roommates mom had her braces when she was in her 40s.

i want to get mine in and out as quick as i can, i feel well soz for you, having them on while ur at that age, it 14 which is still bad, but not as bad as u (no offence)

u shud try a private dentist, im going private soon, cuz nhs is a loads of bull

totally normal; the braces work better when you have them on at your age. Quit worrying, think how nice a smile you will have

I got mine in the middle of tenth grade and off the end of my senior year. But a lot of the guys thought they were cute, just keep em clean ;-) LOL You will be fine!

its not abnormal for full grown adults to have braces. right now you just value the opionion of your peers to much. once you get older you'll have a more mature look on it... it's better to get it taken care of now in H.S then when your older at clubs trying to pick up men with spinach stuck in your railroad tracks...

It's fine don't worry about it. You want straight teeth right? Of course you do so just deal with the braces for a year or two and BAM straight teeth!

I know several people who had braces well into college. Don't stress. You will still be glad you got them. Try invisalign if you are worried about the look for senior pictures, etc.
They are barely noticeable.

im in tenth grade too...no, its not abnormal to have your brace on at 15 and off when youre 16 and a half.
your friends might have taken theirs off cuz its not the same for all ppl...some ppl have it on for 6 months....some for two years, depends on the condition of ur teeth.

No, it's no abnormal at all. One of the reason why the braces should be done when people are young is because it's lot more painful doing that when they grow up too old such as 20+. So starting your braces at 15 isn't bad at all. It really depends on how your teeth condition is and I'm no a pro about this so I can't tell you how long it will take.

Good luck and take care!

any age can have them now, i saw an woman on the checkout in asda the other day in her forties with them. dont worry they are pretty cool now with different colours etc a lot of celebs have them.

It depends on your doctor and your parents. Braces are expensive and insurance does not cover everything usually. Either your parents were trying to save up money to make sure your teeth was taken care of, or your dentist thought you should wait. I had my when I was 15 years old as well. There are many factors to this equation. The reason why I had to wait was because my wisdom teeth did not come in yet. Just be happy that you are going to have perfect teeth and make sure you wear your retainer. A year is not so bad, in time it will be over soon and you will be able to be proud of your teeth. Good Luck.

It's normal. I know people who have gotten braces in their 30's, 40's and older. Just be glad your parents can afford to get them for you & you will have great teeth. It seems like a long time now but down the road you'll be so glad you had them.

I work in a large Comprehensive School (which is a sort of Junior High and Senior High School put together in England) and there are 18 year olds still with braces, in fact there are a couple of members of staff with braces. Sometimes you may feel unusual but I know for a fact that, if I had needed braces, mine would not have been able to have gone on until I was nearly 20 as my back teeth were still growing and so caused movement in my front teeth. Just think of your perfect straight teeth and ignore your colleagues.

It just depends on the way your teeth grow. Having them at your age is perfectly fine, and many people do.

i got mine on in 6th grade. now im in 7th and im not getting them off till next year. im 13

yes

Not everyone gets Braces ( if everyone where you live has worn braces or is wearing Braces, then start looking up Dental Organizations because that's a bad sign).

Someone could need Braces at ANY age: People have talked about their 6 year olds, Tweens have been on here ( 8-12), Adults even in their 30's and 40's on here have braces.

It's actually better to get braces LATER! Your teeth keep moving and changeing through your mid twenties,.. so when they give kids, tweens and teens braces the result the majority of the time do not stick and the person has to wear braces again or gives up on listening to Dentist about it.

No, it's not abnormal. It's normal. But it may be better to wait unless your teeth are very very bad and cutting through your tounge, gum, or cheek.

The Braces Choices for Adults are better as well.

everyone is different. i had mine on till i was 16, i remember i got mine taken in the spring after i turned 16, and i refused to smile in my drivers license picture cuz i was getting them taken off like a month after that! lol. its not a big deal. hey ya know there are adults out there with braces. don't worry

This exact same thing happened to me! I got them when I was 15 and had them taken off when I was 18! I'm pretty easy going, so I didn't let it bother me that I was one of a few kids who still had braces. I even got a boyfriend in that time, and still have him today after 6 years!

Please. I'm in my 20's and have another year left on my braces. You're lucky your parents have enough money to spend on your mouth.

There are loads of adults getting braces on these days.

Don't worry about this, please. Worry more about brushing and flossing when you do get your braces!

Perfectly normal. Actually there is no set time for getting braces because everyone is different. This is my orthodontist's website and she talks about adults and braces. You aren't an adult but you're not a kid. My neighbor got her braces when she was 25!!!! Some orthodontist say it is better because your teeth stop growing because in younger people their teeth usually shift after braces causing repetition in the braces process!!!Don't fret you will be okay.Good Luck!!!!!!
