A question about braces?!

Question:

A question about braces?

I get my braces on in exactly two weeks on friday the 13th (SIGH) I just want to know how bad will the pain be? and should i book off some days from work? I am getting metal because I've heard they do the best job, or so my dentist told me. Is that true? Please give me advice on how low the pain lasts and will I able to pronounce words still? Its my first time and I am really scaredd:(

Answers:

AW i feel your pain. it will ALL be worth it in the end!
the pain....well you wont want to eat...honestly i didnt want to eat ro drink for a while when i got mine on and youll feel like the world is comming to an end....(im just kidding!!) it hurts yes, you probabbly wont want to eat, but take some advil or tylenol and relax and just give a few days. it WILL be frustrating, i found that i had to learn how to chew differently.
take time off work? maybe 1 day, just to get used to them and stuff. you wont need 2 or more days off.
ive never heard that netal do the best job..i have metal on the bottom and these clear brackets on the top and from what i know they are just as good. as about clear ones because they definetly aren't as visible
and the lisp.......mine was horrible at first, but just like with the eating, give it a day or two! it will get better plus, there are like millions and billions of people who have had braces before, and they know what its like so dont worry about anyone "making fun" of you or anything silly like that
it sucks, but youll get the hang of it and it will be totally worth it in the end
also, for flossing (which is something you should definetly keep up with braces on) i recomend superfloss, your ortho might give you some but you can buy it at drugstores. it isnt too hard to use and i found that it was much easier than the other method my ortho showed me
also, boy i am just full of tips today. your gums may become inflamed and red and just keep on brushing and flossing. my dentist suggested that i rinsed sterosol in my mouth (its an antibacterial mouthwash) to help kill bacteria, but then again that happened to me because i have quite sensitive gums
oh yes, and food: you can probably still chew gum and some foods. but i dont jsut because i have broken brackets before which only leads toa longer treatment time
also, if you get elastics to correct an overbite or an underbite, wear them! they also suck, but if you dont it will also cause a longer treatment time!
okay well i guess thats all the advice i have for now....good luck with the 13th and it will be over before you know it
