Answers:

Buy an electric RECHARGEABLE brush. I like the Oral B Braun because you can have a round ortho brush head that fits over the brackets and a head that is pointed to put between the teeth or in tight areas. Sonicare is another popular brush. A water pik is also good for braces, messy, but good. Have your teeth cleaned at least every 6 months. Brush 2 - 3 times a day, floss the areas you can or use your waterpik and pointed head faithfully. Rinse or brush with Prescription strength fluoride if not everyday at least a few times a week. (Get this from dentist). Watch the soda pop intake and sweets. You are more susceptible to decay because it is hard to keep teeth cleaned with braces. Use ibuprofen prior and after your ortho appointments...you will have soreness for several hours that first day. Keep the gum line under the bracket very clean. This area is easy to miss and if it bleeds.....keep brushing it. Don't avoid an area that bleeds, it needs the attention because plaque is accumulating there and keeping it inflammed.
