Should I get a second opinion?!
Question:
Should I get a second opinion?
I went to the dentist yesterday because I had what I thought was a cavity on one of my upper back teeth. When I got there the dentists did x-rays and cleanings, and poked around for a bit, and told me that everything looked good and that I didn't have a cavity. He told me that what I was seeing was actually an old silver filling that had become tarnished, and that's why it appeared to be a cavity. He also told me that sometimes silver fillings will cause sensitivity to hot and cold like a cavity would. Should I get a second opinion about this "cavity/filling", or would he know for sure because of the x-rays, and the cleaning? Thanks for your help.
Answers:
Silver fillings become dark gray in color, If he thought it was leaking he would have suggested you have it done. It would be more money in his pocket. I don't think you need a filling, if you get a second opinion that is always your choice, but there are many dentists that are recommending you change silver to white. Your dentist has a great theory, don't fix it if it's not broken.
