Dental question involving mouth guards?!

Question: my dentist thinks that i grind my teeth while sleeping and i don't know if i do. she wants to charge me about $600 for some custom mouth guard. Can I just buy the kind that you heat and mold instead for a lot cheaper and get the same protection?

You probably do grind your teeth and not realize it. Alot of people do. I personally clench in my sleep and when I am stressed. I have an occlusal guard that I do not wear as often as I should that was custom made. You can buy the OTC kind, but they are not going to last very long. The material in those are not very durable. Occlusal guards that are custom made would be more beneficial or even an N.T.I. $600 for an occlusal guard is a little on the steep side. An N.T.I. can cost a little less. You can try the store bought "mouth" guard first to see how it works out. And if doesn't then I would try to get a 2nd opinion and maybe find a dentist who may charge a less. I'm including a couple of websites for you to check out.

Good luck with this problem.

In my opinion, yes. That's the one I use. You could also ask your dentists for orthodontist for one of the cheaper customizable ones. My friend got one of those, and it was cheaper than her retainer, which was a little less that $100. Good luck!

IF YOUR DENTIST WANTS TO MAKE YOU AN N.T.I. BUXISM APPLIANCE THEN $600 IS A FAIR COST.
THIS CANNOT BE JUST PURCHASED IN STORES.

Custom made night guards are worth it. It helps protect your teeth in many ways. The only alternative to the $600 one is go to your local store and buy a sports mouth guard. Heat it in warm water and bite your teeth into it to make it more comfortable for you. You do have to realize that this is not going to be as comfortable or fit near as well as your custom made one.

give the discount store mouth guard a try and if it doesn't work then go for the other kind
