Will lip piercings ruin my gums?!

Question: It depends on what kind of lip piercing. If you want just a regular hoop lip piercing, yes. It can also scrape the enamel off your teeth.
Labret piercings are probably the worst piercing for your gums and enamel.
Vertical labrets, on the other hand, don't bother your mouth at all, because they go vertically through your lip.

They can ruin the enamel on your teeth, that I know, not sure about gums.

yea most likely

It shouldnt unless you do not take proper care of it while it is healing, if the piercer doesnt use the proper jewelery, or if the piercing is improperly placed.

yes

Yes and also your reputation

Yes, and their disgusting looking.

Yeah and they look stupid and require you to have a freaking hole in your lip. Do you really want a hole in your lip? Didn't think so.

no not your gum but your lip.

The answer is yes and no.

I am currently a dental assistant and formerly heavily pierced.

From personal experience: I had 2 lip rings and 3 labret piercings. The lip rings caused little to no wear on the enamel of my tooth.

The labret piercings caused my gums to recede severely! Because of this, a graft is necessary to recover the exposed tooth.

From a dental standpoint: Stay away from the lip/labret piercings, they can grow out fairly quickly, leave scars (I have proof) and cause long term and expensive damage to your teeth and gums.

Most lip piercings have the potential to damage both teeth and gums if proper jewellery is not worn, or if the placement of the individual piercing is poor. Lip rings do not touch the gums. A home-made saline solution is a common way to heal a lip piercing and avoid infection. Combine 1/8 tsp. sea salt to 1 cup of warm water. This solution can be used to rinse out the mouth after eating and to soak the outside of the piercing using a cotton ball. Anything with alcohol, peroxide, iodine, or any strong soaps should be avoided because they may irritate the fresh piercing, and cause additional swelling and trauma during the healing process.

good luck with the piercing!

it can wear away the enamel of ur tooth from constant contact
