Can you get wisdom teeth taken out using local anesthesia rather than being put !

Question: Has anyone ever done this? I'm afraid to be put under. I feel like when I wake up I'll freak out. I want to be awake for it, I hate the effects of drugs like that. Doctor asks me a question as he puts me under and before I know it I'm done? I don't like that feeling.

Yes you can.. I was 9months pregnant and had mine pulled. All I felt was pressure of the pulling.. but no pain during the extraction. Good luck to you... oh and don't suck out of a straw afterwards...

I think it depends on whether they're impacted or not.

I was afraid of anesthesia too. But really, it wasn't a big deal.

it all depends on how your teeth are.... i had to be put to sleep... cause my had deep roots..... but i did great after wards..... and it was my first time ever to be put to sleep...

I had mine done with a local as well. However, there were problems, meaning, once the dentist (not oral surgeon) got in, the roots were actually curled a bit. The teeth were coming in straight--no impaction or anything like that--but afterwards he said had known the problems, he would have sent me to an oral surgeon rather than doing it himself. Talk to your dentist or oral surgeon and let them know what you want, then ask if that can be done. Basically, the simpler the procedure, the more likely you can use a local. If there are complications (impacted, degenerative bone issues) then a general may be necessary.

Yes, I had two removed with local anesthetic.

Definitely. I believe it's usually local nowadays. They won't put you under unless it's absolutely necessary. After a quick pinch from the first shot, you won't feel anything. I didn't need the gas. I didn't even know it was over until I saw the tooth. It is scary, but you will be fine. Good luck.

Oh YES, I had mine removed with a local, two at a time,a week apart. These young Dentists cant handle it,but an older more experienced one can.It cost me $50.00 per tooth in 1993.

Yes you can. Many people would rather be out because they don't have to hear the sounds associated with having teeth removed, but normally this is perfectly acceptable. I have seen people have wisdom teeth removed all of the time with just local anesthesia. As a side note it will also be easier on your pocket having only local anesth. I.V. sedation can be expensive. You can have oral conscious sedation via Valium or some other "calming" medications, as well as nitrous oxide which also works well for people that don't want to be "out of it" for an extended period of time.

yes, with a good dentist you will be done before you start really worrying about it. I would not consider complete anesthesia ever unless you call it a surgery :)

You can. Personally, I was given Valium when I had mine done because they were impacted. I wasn't put all the way under but just given the IV with the Valium. It was a really good experience because I didn't have to deal with being completely under, but was REALLY out of it for the procedure.

Getting 'put under' is an option, not a requirement... it's your choice...........and the fee will be less.

:)

ya u can i was put under but u can do local anestiga

ABSOLUTELY, WISDOM TEETH MAY BE REMOVED WITH EITHER METHOD OF ANESTHESIA.

Most dentists or oral surgeons don't have a problem doing the extraction with local only. Being put out is usually for the patient's comfort. Good luck!!!
