Why is my tooth sesitive to the cold?!

Question:

Why is my tooth sesitive to the cold?

i know about stuff like i could have a cavity(which i REALLY hope it isn't) but what could be the other causes. it started about a week ago and i think it's died down but not very much.

Answers:

It could also be wear, or the tooth flexed, or moved to a prematurity.
Wear on the enamel puts you a little closer to a more sensitive layer of dentin just under the enamel. Or the cementum can wear with the same result.
It may not often be discussed, but teeth flex. Sometimes causes grooves just below the crown. That can be real sensitive.
Teeth normally move a bit. In fact, the periodontal ligament is designed to allow just that. If a tooth moves beyond the limit allowed, it can become sensitive. Or if it moves into a premature contact in any of the relationships it can become sensitive.
