Is Orthognathic Surgery worth the pain and the money?!

Question:

Is Orthognathic Surgery worth the pain and the money?

When I first visited an orthodontist, they told me I would need surgery to fix my underbite. I would also need braces and an expander to fix my narrow upper bite. I haven't had any of the procedures done, because my mother decided it wasn't worth it. I am thinking about looking into insurance and doing it myself, but I am a college student and my resources are low. If the braces and expander will fix most of my problems, I won't get the surgery done. But if I'm still going to have a horribly messed up bite. (As of now, one side is normal, one side is an underbite and I my front teeth don't meet together at all.) I will opt for the surgery.

Answers:

I am in the same situation as you, almost to the T, anyway, after much thought I called and made the appointment today for the surgery, I am nervous too, but I hope it works out well for both of us
