I agree with Bella P, warm salt water rinses will help with the taste. The horrible breath could also be due to the blood clot that broke down (the reason for your dry socket), it's basically dead tissue that needs to slough away. It usually takes 10-14 days to grow new tissue and no longer need the dressing (insulation). Then make sure to keep those sockets clean because if you accumulate food in there it can cause infection...then it will REALLY smell bad!!

warm salt water...swish it around and it won't hurt and it cleans

when i got a dry socket on my wisdom teeth, the doctor used a clove oil that was horrible. It gave me such bad heartburn i couldnt stand it, but eventually it went away. I sucked on a lot of mints and such to help it fade

I remember that taste like it was yesterday and it was 5 years ago.

Have you tried mouthwash? chewing gum?

Those are temporary fixes I know but you won't be able to get rid of it because the taste u r tasting is the medication in the packing that is fighting infection.

I hope you feel better!

How long ago was the pack put in? The taste should go away within a few hours. Rinse with some luke warm salt water (8oz warm water to 1/2 teaspoonful of salt) after every meal and before going to bed.

awww, poor thing........dry sockets suck! i used to work in a dental office, and as far as i know theres nothing you can do. the taste your getting is clove.....and thats also the very thing that is stopping your pain. if you were successful in removing the taste you would also have removed the anesthetic unfortunately. i had them years ago and i remember clearly that everything i ate and drank for 2 weeks tasted like cloves. to this day the mere smell nauseates me! it sucks i know, but the pain of dry sockets is worse. best thing i can tell ya is it will fade a little bit, but you'll still taste it. chances are you'll get used to it in a couple days. gross i know. good luck!
