When choosing a dentist, do you enquire how much he/she charges for services?!

Question:

When choosing a dentist, do you enquire how much he/she charges for services?

Becuase, some charge more than others. How do you make sure you are not getting ripped off. Would you change your dentist if you come to know he is charging more than other dentists?

Answers:

After a consultation / evaluation, it is standard practice for a dentist to present you with a treatment plan, which is a list of procedures he/she thinks you need to have done, taking into account the scope of treatment you desire. The treatment plan should include a breakdown of the fees for those procedures.

In other words, you shouldn't even have to ask for the fees-- It is standard practice to let you know how much it all costs.

Keep in mind however, that sometimes higher fees are justified, such as if you are getting root canals done by a certified endodontic specialist or wisdoms being pulled by an oral surgeon. You are paying for their expertise, not necessarily being "ripped off."

Hope this helps.
