Most offices offer a payment plan where you will be required to pay a down payment and then montly payments for as long as you wear the braces. I'm thinking that I paid $600 initially and then $100 monthly and I had mine on for 12 months. Most will do free consults and discuss the options with you before you commit.
As far as hurting, it was more like a soreness or discomfort after getting them on and for a day or so after going back for wire change, etc. It's all well worth it for a beautiful smile!!
all i know they cost alot! and they do hurt but they are mostly anoiying and so are the orthadontists!

yes you pay monthly but they tell you how much it will cost total before. mine are currently costing about $800 total. but my dentist is expensive so i wouldnt expect that much depending on where you live. they do hurt when you first get them, the pain will arrive usually about 24 hours after you've had them on. they continue hurting for 5-7 days. get ready to chow down on ice cream- it was all i could eat for days! best thing to do would be to call your orthodontist and see what your total would be. it is totally worth it once they take mthem off and you have a beautiful smile though!
