Question:

I have just taken the Dental Admissions Test and im kinda confussed as to what my next step is.?

Is there a website that i have to fill out all kinds of crap like amcas and write essays or do i just apply to dental schools now?

Answers:

You need to make sure everything is ready for you to apply to dental school, which means:

1) Make sure you have all your recommendation letters ready. At the end of each semester, have you been asking your college professors to write you recommendations and have them sent to your file at your college's pre-professional advisement office?

2) Make sure you have taken all of the pre-dental requirement courses (1 year each of biology, chem, physics, organic chem, and their accompanying lab courses, college algebra and college english).

3) Research which dental schools you want to apply to. Remember that some dental schools rarely accept anyone from outside their region. For instance, SUNY Stony Brook's dental school rarely accepts anyone from outside of New York State. Generally you want to apply to the dental schools in your state, or the closest ones if there isn't one in your state.

If you have done all of the above, the next step would be to go to your college's pre-professional advisement office and ask them for the AADSAS application. It is the primary application for applying to dental schools in the U.S. and Canada. Follow the included instructions on how to fill it out and what to send (transcripts, check/money order for the application fee, etc.). The earlier in the cycle you send in the AADSAS, the better your chances will be.

After you send in your AADSAS, the schools you are applying to will send you secondary applications and instructions for filling those. After you complete those, they will contact you to set up an interview.

Good luck.
