What is a root canal?!

Question: Root canals is the commonly used term for the main canals within the dentin of the tooth. These are part of the natural cavity within a tooth that consists of the dental pulp chamber, the main canals, and sometimes more intricate anatomical branches that may connect the root canals to each other or to the root surface of the tooth. Root canals are filled with a highly vascularized, loose connective tissue, the dental pulp. This sometimes becomes infected and inflamed, generally due to caries or tooth fractures that allow microorganisms, mostly bacteria from the oral flora or their byproducts, access to the pulp chamber or the root canals; the infected tissue is removed by a surgical intervention known as endodontic therapy and commonly called 'a root canal'.

drill a hole under your tooth to bridge a canal for your nerve

Painful. I had one when i was little.

very painfull.

painfull!

yeah what he said at the top

They drill a hole in your tooth and remove the nerve. This deadens the tooth. Then they usually file it down and put a crown (cap) on it.

It is where the dentists drills out the whole root of a tooth completely and replaces it with a plastic rod to anchor the tooth.

It usualy happens when the root has become infected or if the tooth has severe damage. It doesn't hurt as they do it under local anesthetic.

something painful in ur mouth!!!!!

When they drill the nerve out of the root of your tooth so you can't feel pain in it..

Funny you ask that-since lastnite I had a dream my teeth (that are now root canals fell out) =(
Anyway, when you get a root canal-you keep your tooth, but they cut the root-so you live with a "dead tooth". Sometimes (many years later) the tooth may turn color.

A treatment in which diseased tissue from this part of the tooth is removed and the resulting cavity is filled with an inert material.

my sister just got one. they dont necessarily hurt. sometimes they do and sometimes they dont. i think they go into the gum and then correct the issue

A root canal is a treatment used to repair and save a tooth that is badly decayed or becomes infected. During a root canal procedure, the nerve and pulp is removed and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed. The pulp or pulp chamber is the soft area within the center of the tooth. The tooth's nerve lies within root canals, which lie within the roots or "legs" of the tooth. The root canals travel from the tip of the tooth's root into the pulp chamber, which also contains blood vessels and connective tissue that nourish the tooth.

A tooth's nerve is not vitally important to a tooth's health and function after the tooth has emerged through the gums. Its only function is sensory
