Why do dentists say numbers when examining your teeth?
Are they making notes of the teeth that have cavities or the ones that are ok?

The mouth is devided in to four quadrants, upper left, upper right, lower left and of course lower right. Each quadrant is numbered from 1 - 8, with 1 being the front teeth, so UL1, means your front tooth on the upper left, GET IT? The dentist is identifying which teeth you have, which teeth you have missing and which teeth need work. this allowes the Nurse to record the details on your chart, within your dental records. And as you have work done on a perticular tooth it can be entered on to your chart. Simple answer - it's Dental talk which makes it easy to identify individual teeth.
