Do teeth effect bands to close your gap in your teeth really work?!

Question: Wow! This is a new one for me and I've been working in orthodontics for over 30 years! It just goes to show you that people can sell anything and there's always a sucker to buy it.

Let me explain why I have a problem with just putting these elastics on the teeth to close the gap. Teeth are angled in the bone, each tooth has its own angle in order to fit properly. Braces have these measurements built into them so that the teeth will maintain the proper arch form and angulation. When we close a gap with elastic chain, we are moving the teeth sideways, while maintaining proper position. Also, when you put pressure on just the front two teeth with these teeth effect bands, you aren't moving the laterals, so a gap will open there. There is absolutely no control of any other teeth. So now you will have 2 gaps, and possible rotations or tipping of the central incisors!

PS There is nothing to hold the teeth closed once you supposedly close the gap, so it will reopen when you stop using these elastics. And there is absolutely no scientific literature backing up this product.

This is an unbelievably bad product! I can't believe it's on the market.

well, if they are tight enough, they will pull your teeth together like braces...it might hurt, and it will take time because teeth are deeply rooted into your gums. once they are moved to wher you want them I don't know how you will get them to stay... because with braces, you get a retainer...idk...ask your dentist.

I don't think this is a good idea. The website doesn't seem to have anything verifying that this is safe or that trained orthodontists or dentists have said that this is safe.
A couple of problems with it: first, the angle of the teeth (if it really worked like it says) might be strange. The jaw is sorta u-shaped, so if you just pull together two teeth, the results might not be correct. Also, the "space" has to go somewhere. It will probably go to the next two teeth, and you'll end up with two spaces instead of one. Another problem is that the teeth might get pulled together too fast. The purpose of braces is to *slowly* move together the teeth so that the gums and bones can "catch up". Otherwise the teeth would become loose.
I suggest you go see your dentist and show them this product and see what they say about it. Maybe they can recommend some sort of braces that will just be for the front teeth.
Good luck.
