I got my wisdom teeth removed yesterday, and i feel nauseous. why?!

Question: I'm taking 4 different kinds of meds, penicillin vk, diflunisal, oxycodone, and promethazine. the promethazine is supposed to counteract the nauseousness with the oxycodone (percoset), but everytime i stand up, i feel really hot and nauseous, even though its 68 degrees in my house. is this normal, and do you have any advice for me? and also, i'm supposed to be rinsing my mouth with saltwater today, how much salt to put in water for a quick rinse?

Nausea is normal after any surgery because of the pain medications and the anesthesia that you go under. Take it easy for a few days, and if it doesn't get better call the dentist. The promethazine helps with the nausea, but it might not help 100%. You might also feel this way because you're not eating like you normally do. Drink lots of water and juice and eat whatever you can.

As for the salt water, use as much as it takes for the water to taste salty. It's not an exact science.

its the stuff they put into you to relieve the pain.

must be a side effect of the medicine, call your pharmacy to ask

your meds are causing the nausea. It's best to just rest for now, because yes it's normal. I think about a teaspoon of salt to a cup of water but I'm not sure.

Call your Dentist

Yes, it is the medicine.....you will be fine within two days. Put in as much salt as is comfortable for you, and sleep as much as you can. Good luck!!

Pain meds will do that to ya.... Salt rince...I dunno about 1/2 a teaspoon to a cup of water, enough to make it taste real bad.

Well, stupid, look at all the meds you are taking. That will cause anyone to be nauseous. I've had wisdom teeth out and all I needed was some vicodin for the pain. I used to use a table spoon of salt for a cup of water.

Removing your wisdoms is Major dental surgery. Yes that is normal. Just take it easy for a few days, follow your doctors advice and you'll be fine.

are you sure you are taking the meds correctly...cause that is a lot of medication at one time...it might also be that you are swallowing a lot of blood and you might not be eating enough...a friend of mine ate baby food when she had her wisdom teeth out...there are a lot of possibilities...hope this helped...if you try some of these and you still feel it i would contact your doctor immediatly

I felt this way after my surgery. Stop taking the pain meds. I felt so much better after stopping the pain meds. If you stay on them, they will keep you in bed a few extra days. Just keep ice on your face, and you won't have much pain.

The anesthetics have not cleared your system yet, and I know when mine were pulled it messed me up for a couple days put a teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water and mix it well

It might be the anesthesia.

Are you having a lot of pain? Are your instructions to take the oxycodone no matter what ? Or just if needed? As you withdraw from that medicine your nausea will go away. Plus the fact you probably have no food in your stomach to speak of makes it worse. Call your oral surgeon office for instructions about the salt dilution. They should have written that down for you. Be careful when you stand that you do not fall.

Not to be gross, but you're probably swallowing a little blood, which can nauseate you. The pain meds make me dizzy and sick too, so maybe the anti-nausea aid just can't do the trick for you. Try skipping it as soon as you feel brave enough and see if that helps.

As for the salt rinse, I would call any pharmacy around you and ask them. It's a common thing that any of them would know right away.

Hope you feel better soon!

Not sure about the salt; but don't use too much or that will make you sick!

The nauseousness may be side effects of some anaesthetics you were on (if you were on them) during your op. Or it could simply be some form of bug.

I wouldn't worry. Just rest, drink plenty of fluids and I hope you feel better soon!

Try drinking some warm chicken bullion. Or the broth from chicken noodle soup. You need something in you for all those meds in your tummy.
I think one level teaspoon of salt in an eight ounce glass of warm water. Do not swish in a harsh manner or do anything to dislodge the clots that have formed. I think the salt helps your mouth heal. But too much is too harsh and will hurt the healing process.

be patient just drink plenty of water to clean your system of the anesthesia and drugs they used on you, should last you a couple of days.as for the salt try a teaspoon on an 8 ounce of water, and tongue test it if it tastes too salty add more water.there is no need to cause yourself any more discomfort by using too much salt

are you allergic to penicillin? and just from personal experience, even with antinausea meds, i still get naucous from oxycodone. if you are still feeling like this, i would call your surgon and ask what to do.
put a teaspoon of salt in 16 ounces of warm water....stir well...dispose of any you don't use...you can put 1/2 a teaspoon in 8 ounces, etc., but don't use the left over later.

drink plenty of fluids, and try to eat something, even though its going to be uncomfortable. that might settle your stomach, even if its just mashed potatoes or something.

feel better!

your nauseated because of the pain medication. make sure you keep food in your tummy when taking the meds to help you keep from getting nauseated. rinse 4 times a day with luke warm salt water. do not swish hard, very lightly. put 2 teaspoons of salt into one 8 oz glass of water. remember 4 times a day. drink plenty of fluids. you will fine i a couple of days!!!

My dentist told me to put a tablespoon in water as hot as I could handle and wash my mouth out up to 3 times daily, he said it was better than the anti-bacterial mouth I was using, believe me, the pain prior to having your tooth pulled is immeasurably worse so look forward to a beautiful pain-free smile sweetheart.

My 16 year old son went through this last month when his wisdom teeth where taken out.

You're on a lot more meds than my son. For the most part he got by on Tylenol though he did have a script for vicoden but only needed four of the ten pills.

Some of the nausea might come from swallowing a small amount of blood during the operation. Every oral sergeant works hard to prevent this but it still happens. You should feel better by this evening.

One of the best things you can do is walk around and take up any activity that occupies your mind. Also ice packs for the first 24 hours kept the swelling and pain down.

I believe it was 1 teaspoon of salt to every 8 ounce of water. The salt water helped so do it as directed. If you'd feel better call your oral sergeant to confirm this.

I can believe that idiot called you stupid.

You're just doing what the doctor told you, which is the right thing.

It's the meds, they make you feel that way. I slept for the first like 3 days. Just take it easy and you're not stupid.
