i have a new system of braces call Damon 3.
they hurt for about a week, but not that awful.
i have braces right now, as i type.
they have actually given me more confidence. i smile more, and laugh more, too.
you can do all the things you normally do, but be sure to eat sugarfree gum.
that way, you will get cavities less, and the orthodontist won't have to take off your bracket.
i've had my braces since march, 2007.
my teeth are pretty well straight all except for two of them, and i have an overbite and i have to wear rubber bands.
but my braces aren't that bad at all!i promise

ok well , i have to break it to you, braces stink.

Now the PAIN.

1. It hurts pretty badly for the first 2 weeks, and its likely that you'll be on a soup/jello/bread diet.
2. After that, the pain pretty much dies and you get used to it.
3. The only time you'll be in pain is when you get them tightened and they change the wires!
4. Or, if something goes wrong and they leave a wire too long. But you can schedule last minute appointments for that and get it fixed so don't worry.
:]

You aren't SUPPOSED to eat gum, chewy or hard candy, hard foods that aren't cut up, or drink a lot of soda.
Nobody listens to those rules though.
As long as you are careful while eating them, you should be okay.

And if you get rubberbands WEAR THEM!
You will have to keep your braces on longer if you don't.

Good Luck with the braces!
:]

Well i m goni 2 be truthful 2 u it REALLY hurts and when they give u the rubber bands 2 put in they are always breaking and it snaps u HARD and ur not goin 2 wanna eat cauz of the pain i mean it really is killer and i m not tryin 2 be mean i not only had 2 get both my bottoms and tops on the same day i also had 2 get an expander on it REALLY hurt i m sorry i hope it does not hurt as bad as it did 4 me =[

Hey! Same w/ me. I am getting braces in just few days and I have found out that you should take any type of pain reliever (Tylenol,Advil,etc...) before or right after you get them. I have found that they are supposed to hurt pretty bad. Email me if you have any questions that I might could answer!
P.S. Eat foods such as soup, ice cream, soft things like that. Good luck to both of us!

u kno i dont really think it hurts, dont let other people scare u , i mean it might hurt a little but only for a minute

good luck <3

It does hurt....especially when they adjust the wire..Can't eat any hard foods............

I'm actually getting my braces OFF tomorrow, so in summary:

-braces aren't the end of the world like some people make it out to be, but they certainly aren't the best.
-When they put them on, there is minimal pain...I don't even remember it hurting that much.
-The soreness after will be HUGE. My best reccommendation is tylenol of some other kind of painkiller..they're going to be your friends for a while. ;)

Just be careful with extremely hard foods...obviously jawbreakers are going to be off the menu. If your crowns or brackets fall off, don't stress! It happens. Just call for an appointment immediately, don't wait until the checkup.

Like everyone has said, the only other time it hurts is after tightening, but it only lasts a few days. Don't skip brushing and wearing whatever it is you have to wear...you'll regret it!
Just follow the basic rules (but still eat whatever you want, of course :P) and be sure to call if you have a problem!
:D
GOODLUCK!

Everyone says it is really painful, but I don't think it was...The first day you don't feel that much, but the second day is the most painful. I never took any pain medicine because it really didn't hurt. When you try to eat for like the first 2 weeks it seems impossible. You will get use to it, trust me!! Good luck!
