I JUST got INVISALIGN, Please help!?!

Question:

I JUST got INVISALIGN, Please help!?

I just got my lower invisalign today. I had severe crowding in the lower teeth. The first time i got my trays, it didn't fit. 2nd time, didn't work. so my dentist made me get new impressions and the 3rd time, it FINALLY fit. However, it has now been 12 hours since my first tray and it totally hurts! Will this pain go away??

Also- I have read people with severe crowding will not be fixed with invisalign. if that's the case, why would my dentist say it's ok? OR is it a bad sign the dentist couldn't get my first two invisalign trays to fit my mouth? I'm nervous because I have 12 months I need to complete it and I would appreciate if someone who HAS used invisalign would give me some sort of hope or honest opinions wether or not my teeth will be straight one day. I do have 4 buttons on the bottom teeth..

Oh, the trays are not THAT invisible. I still see the saliva inside my trays and on occasion, I get lisp. I am due to start my upper teeth in a month or so, with some slimming.

Answers:

As with all orthodontics such as braces and Invisalign, when a wire or Aligner is changed or adjusted, it puts new pressure on the teeth which can sometimes be sore. It should be gone within 24-48 hours and should never be excruciating. I always design my Invisalign cases to move the teeth slowly to minimise the pain but it can get sore especially aligner number 1. The pain will go away!

Invisalign does have its limitations but your dentist or orthodontist obviously feels that your case is treatable with Invisalign. Provided it is designed correctly and the patient follows instructions, Invisalign will defintely work (or the company would go out of business). The most likely reason that your aligners are only fitting on the third go is that the first two sets of impressions were not accurately matching the shape of your teeth. This happens to every dentist sometimes as Invisalign demand highly accurate impressions.

As for the trays being not that invisible, there isn't anything better so just do your best to keep them clean and wear them as much as you can so the treatment goes smoothly and you can get rid of them asap. Good luck.
