Scared to have wisdom teeth removed?!

Question: Need info:

Will having my teeth removed change my facial structure at all?

I hear there will be brusing...

I've never had i.v and I deathly scarred of needles and especially something sticking in me like an i.v and not being removed, but staying in there...0_o**

Having the wisdom teeth out should NOT change your facial structure at all, unless you've got some sort of protrusion due to the teeth being there; then your cheekbones, after healing, may even look more defined.

Remember that I said "after healing". I had 4 impacted ones taken out at once, and I was scared to death, the first time I saw myself afterward. My eyes weren't symmetrical and I looked like I went a few rounds with Mike Tyson. It was due to the swelling, but when it went down, there was some bruising, but when that cleared, all was well.

Don't be afraid of the i.v. I WISH I'd done that when I had mine out...instead, my fear of the i.v. made me say "Just numb me up"...and it was a huge mistake. The stink of the extractions was horrible. I would've MUCH preferred to have been asleep.

The last time since then that I had major work done, I got the i.v. Look away when they're hooking you up. In a few moments after, you're going to feel like a warm flush come over you, like you had a hot flash or are blushing hard. Then they tell you to count back from 100. I tried to fight it in my mind, saying "This isn't gonna work"..and I didn't even make it past 98.

I will mention this to you, though, because this happened to me: There is sometimes temporary amnesia after the i.v. they use. It's nothing major but it did disturb me a little. I vaguely recall them waking me up, and finding myself in a little room there. I remember being helped out to the car, but I don't remember anything about the ride home or actually walking into the house, or anything else until the next morning, so make sure you have somebody to help you the first night of it, when you're coming off the anesthesia.

One more thing...don't worry. This is one of the most common procedures, and even though the 4 of mine were impacted really badly, and I had to sign a release stating if I had facial PARALYSIS (Gee, there's something that wouldn't frighten anybody..NOT), that they weren't liable (a nerve ending was wrapped between the tooth and the jaw)...it was fine. Getting them out was one of the best things I ever did, and you'll feel the same, especially if they're causing you pain.

One more thing...when it's other teeth, like front ones, that are removed, THAT can change your structure. Look at someone with dentures and you'll see, even when the dentures are in, a telltale bit of "sinking" around the mouth. Wisdom teeth (and many back teeth) don't cause that. So again, don't worry. :)

Edit to add: My pleasure. If my experience helps you relax about this, even just a little, then it was worth the time and retelling. Just don't freak out when you first see yourself! I PROMISE you it will get better...although of course I thought my face was going to be messed up forever, lol!

It dosent hurt your face at all. Your mouth will lbe sore for awhile do they give you meds and you eat soft foods. But dont be a ***** about it!!!

I had mine removed. They did use an IV to put me to sleep so you wouldn't see or feel anything. There is bruising along the jaw line and swelling. You will loo a littlebeat up for a few days. They do give you pain meds. for home. Good luck

I got my wisdom teeth out in August of '07. I bruised where they put the IV. Which I do not think they hurt that bad it all depends on how much you freak out over it and work yourself up. I did not bruise on my face because I kept constant Ice on it. I did swell a bit but it went down in no time. Just make sure whatever you do do NOT play with your stitches with your tongue like I did. My top right stitches came out the next day (not sure how but I did not get dry socket thank gosh) and now my gum is uneven because it could not close it properly. It will all be fine. Just try to stay relaxed about it...Ohh and eat pudding and mashed potatoes ohh and crushed ice...

Your jaw is going to swell. As well as the area under your chin. I bruise easily so I had massive bruises due to the swelling, I got constant questions about rather I had gotten into a fight when I went back to work a week later. If the anastesia works correctly, you're not going to care too much about having an iv in your arm :d Stock up on some ice cream.
