Partial denture pain?!

Question:

Partial denture pain?

Hi! I got a new partial today. Feels pretty good except the tooth the metal clip thingie is on is quite sore. Will this naturally loosen in time a bit or should I take it in to get it adjusted. My dentist is on vacation next week and I do have to see her when she returns. Should I just give it time or do you think there is something wrong that it is to tight or something. Also, one of the teeth is a front tooth, every time I eat something it taps on the metal and well just is odd. Other then those 2 things I can actually eat with it in. Just that 1 tooth is OUCH!!! Does that tooth need to just get used to it or do you think it is to tight. It does hurt pretty badly even if I have it out and apply pressure to it with my finger. Thanks to anyone that could help!! I have had partials in the past that rocked alot and I could never get used to and this one is far more comfortable except as I said the one tooth hurting.

Thanks... I can wait probably..I think the clasp will loosen eventually a bit. I know the tooth is ok because it was recently worked on. I am sure it is just the pressure and once it loosens a bit it will be much better. I have had it out for about an hour now and the tooth does not hurt anymore so for now I will just take it out if it starts to hurt really bad to give it a break. I know it takes getting used to and well I would prefer it tight then rocking like all the others I have had in the past did.

Answers:

The partial may be putting too much stress on the one tooth. The clasp (metal thing) will loosen the more you take it in and out, so they probably overtightened it to get a happy medium eventually. If one tooth is really achy I would see the dentist to get an xray and make sure that the nerve is okay, although I think most definitely the stress of the tight clasp is what's causing your discomfort. So, give it a week or so and remember to keep it out at night to give your tissues a rest. Then, if it still aches, get it looked at.
