One for the dentists out there...?!

Question:

One for the dentists out there...?

I've been experiencing some problems lately with receding gums on my upper teeth. I'm using an electric toothbrush and just lightly touching the teeth with it to cut down on the wearing of the gums.

The gums are still receding and the dentist says it's not a problem but has told me that if they go to far then I may find that my teeth will be yellow at the line where they meet the gums as under the gums the teeth are yellow.

Should that happen, what's my options then, she's told me bleaching them wont help as it's normal for them to be that colour. Would it be best to have them filled with white fillings?

Answers:

This is probably not the answer you would want to hear but... a periodontist can possibly graft the gum tisse to cover the exposed roots of the teeth. If you fill the yellow areas with white fillings there is no guarentee the gumms won't recede more. In that case, grafts the gum tissue cannot be done over the fillings.
The graft procedure is relatively permanent. Unless you brush your teeth extremely hard, the gums will probably not recede after a graft procedure.
