Ok, I won't lie...

It hurts a little when you get them on but it's like for a minute. Once you get them on, you'll be like "This isn't bad. Everyone said they hurt but not for me" But that statement is false. Within an hour or by night time, you be in SO much pain.

You'll want to drink, eat pudding, or jello. No solid foods. It will hurt bad but this ONLY lasts for like 3 days to a week. Maybe a little more. But after 3 days, it's to the point you hardly notice it.

Take Advil or Tylenol. You can take it before but you'll need it after. But you have to remember, that it won't hurt every single day until you get them off. It's just when you get them on.

Most of the time when you have them on, you don't even notice that they are on. I have them on now and I get them off in June. So I know what I'm talking about. And I don't have the most perfect teeth either.

And when they say you can't have candy or chips, don't listen. Just don't bite hard or anything. Don't play with the wires because they brake easy. And when something brakes, get it fixed quick. Because if you wait like a month to get it fixed, it will hurt when you get fixed. But just by that tooth.

I'm not trying to scare you but this is how it is. You will get through it like everyone. Then you can show off your bling bling!

There are a lot of colors to choose. I recommend a blue. That is what I have on. Or a red!

Hopefully I answered any question you have!

And for the overbite, I have one too. I think the rubberbands they give you is suppose to take care of that. But mostly everyone has an overbite so don't worry about it.

My sister just got hers on this summer. She said it doesn't hurt while getting them on, but it hurts like hell afterwards. What she did was take ibrofun. It pained her for only about a week, and now she is totally fine.

I had braces as a child, it hurts some but not to bad. What hurts is when they retighten the wires that go across the braces. Technology may have changed since the 70's but that was my personal experience

Doesn't hurt at all. Just take a tylenol afterward and you'll be fine. Good luck!

It doesn't really hurt, but it's time consuming and uncomfortable. You can take Motrin or other medication your orthodontist recommends.

The first few days afterwards you will have some pain, but you get used to it after a while and, after a few months, the adjustments don't even bother you anymore. You won't believe how little you even notice them.

Your teeth may be sore or uncomfortable during the process and afterward, but you won't feel any real pain during the procedure. It may hurt if/when the orthodontist spreads your lips to access all of your teeth, but nothing super-painful.

Good luck!

Well, it depends how bad your teeth are. If its crooked, to tell you the truth, it will. Everytime you get it tightened every month, it does hurt. The first few months WILL hurt because you are getting used to the new metal 'stuff' in your mouth and it will feel weird to eat. You will start getting cuts in your mouth and everytime you get it tightened every month, it does hurt, but then it cools off at the end of the month. THEN, you start getting used to it, and the pain you get after tightening will lighten up even quicker. Soon you don't even feel anything! and Hey! Your teeth look fabulous after!

Take Tylenol and Motrin!!!

it doesnt hurt when u first get them on, but afterwards it hurts a lot and its about a week before it stops hurting.

and then the pain is about the same when u get them tightened

they hurt for the first few days-
mine hurt up to a week but that was because i had terrible teeth.
Take some advil to releive the pain and choose your food wisely.
I reccomend any color other than black - its a great color but not so much in your mouth.

It does hurt. I had them 2 years ago. It hurt when I had them on and took off. When I had them first put on it hurt for at least a week and a half. I had to eat soft food like mashed potatoes. I had them change collor every visit instead of it looking plain. It really hurts when you get them tightened. Ask for wax cuz it helps. when I had them taken off it hurt for a good week. when I had my retainers for a two weeks I sounded funny. Good luck with them.

ok- well next month will b my 1 yr anniversary for mine. i suggest you eat 1st and take a naproxen. that is what i did. i had to drink a smoothie for supper that night and i ate chicken noodle soup for the next day. so be sure to have that on hand. BE SURE TO GET WAX BEFORE YOU LEAVE. and Wear it no matter how gross it feels or taste. gargle salt water and keep a hot compress on it that night.

I had braces for 2 years.

The process of getting them on takes a little while but it is completely painless. A few hours you leave the office though, you'll start feeling a little pain, and it'll keep increasing. It'll be gone by the third day usually. If it gets really bad, eat or drink something cold because the cold makes the wires more stiff, thus it won't be pulling on your teeth as forcefully.

It'll be painless until your next tightening. When they give you a new wire it'll hurt again for a day or so afterwards, but you won't even notice your braces until the next check up.

When you get them off, they have to pull the brackets (the metal things) off your teeth and shave the glue off. My bottom teeth (the 4 centre ones) are sensitive, so this hurt for a few seconds while they were doing it, but that's it. You'll start to feel pressure from your teeth shifting back within minutes. They'll give you a bottom retainer built in, and a top retainer that you usually only need to wear at night (though depending on your orthodontist, you may need to wear it all day). The retainer doesn't hurt, but you'll need to learn to talk with it. Eventually you can wear your retainer less and less, though every so often you should use it to keep your teeth in check.

There's tons of colours (my orthodontist had at least 20) for the elastic "donuts" and powerchains, so just choose your favourites, since you'll have at least a year and a half in most cases to try them out!

If at anytime during your treatment your mouth gets sores from your brackets or wires rubbing against them, just put wax on the part that is causing the irritation.

You don't need any medicine! It's not that bad.

----EDIT----

With your overbite, they will give you elastics which you attach to hooks on special brackets. They'll put the hooks around your canine teeth on the top, and your back molars. I only had to put these on at night, but you may have to put them on more often or less often depending on your doctor. It doesn't really hurt that much more, you get used to it.

By the way, colours to avoid include yellows and golds, black, grey, white, and greens if your teeth are slightly yellow. These colours may make your teeth look dirty/not maintained from far away.

I had braces on about 13 yrs ago. I had them on about 3 years. I thought they hurt when they tightend them up every month. just make sure you take something for pain before you go and get something also before you go. If you bite down to hard it will hurt. Make sure you get wax for you braces. I would always get canker sore from them. Make sure you brush you teeth real good will you have them on or you will have stain on your teeth when you get them off. I had mine on to long and they missed me enamal on my teeth. good luck with the braces.
