Braces questions???!

Question: Hi people!
I am getting separators very soon (tomorrow) and I don't know if they will hurt.
Then, in a week, I am getting braces. Please tell me what should and should not eat? Do braces hurt? What do they feel like??? Please tell me lots; I really want to know!!!
Thanx!!!

I had braces too.
The separators will ache a little. It feels like you have a piece of meat stuck between your teeth (eg. annoying).
The braces take a little to get used to. When you get them tightened they will ache and you may find you can only eat soft foods for a couple of days. Stay away from sticky or hard foods and you will be fine.
I can give you my honest word that it is SO worth it. When I got my braces off I could not believe how beautiful my teeth were. it does wonders for your self esteem.
Good luck :o)

i got braces when i was in sixth grade. the seperators hurt the most, however they are only on for a week, so you don't have to deal with them for much time, but if they are all that painful, just take tylonel or some other kind of OTC painkiller. i got my braces on after a week of the seperators. it feels really weird at first, but you'll get used to them quickly. always have chap stick on you you don't want your lips to get chapped or dry, because if they do they can sometimes get caught in your braces. (not a fun experience) the biggest problem i had with foood and my braces would be with caramel and apples. the ortho really stresses not to eat some foods, and you really need to listen to them, or else you will have to have or braces on longer. (that's not fun either). yea two years later i finally have my braces off. i love my new teeth, so yea i can't stress this enough to follow tthe ortho's directions about the foods you eat and how to brush your teeth and all that good stuff.

i don't have time right now to get into all the juicy details but you can email me if you want to know more. ilovexyourxsmile@aol.com

the separators do hurt you will feel like crying or you will cry like the whole next day because they hurt but on the 2nd day the pain goes away a whole lot and don't chew gum or Carmel

erm do everything you noramlly do! separators are nothing? you cant even feel them. the only bad thing bout braces is how long it takes to clean them and how bad the glue tastes if you get it on your tongue! (dont do it its soo sour!! ERGH) and eat everything you want to eat! i used to eat caramel, have gum ectect even with my braces on and i never had stuff stuck in them and i never broke them. just watch out so that if anything is in them you can get rid of it FAST! and when they are in it doesnt feel that nice. on the first day my mouth felt reallllly bulky but i got used to it! the end result is always worth it! good luck and dont worry at all its not really a big deal x

i got mine off today! i didn't think the separators hurt, but most of my friends did. if you're getting a full set, not to scare you but the braces will hurt big time when you chew or touch them. you can eat bananas, oatmeal, mashed potatoes, yogurt (if it's low in sugar) and any other soft foods, though keep in mind to avoid gummi bears and sticky foods. hard foods like nuts are a no no and crunchy popcorn can get stuck in your brackets. anyway, the biggest issue will be more of handling the pressure during the first week of braces, gurgle with icy cold water to numb your teeth, or try applying some anbensol on your gums five minutes before you eat. in the end it's all worth it though! if you have any more questions click on my profile and you can reach me through the email link on the right.
hope this helps!

i had them for over 2 and a half years. at first it hurt bad. well you can eat everything that is not very firm. like if you bite in a whole apple at the beginning it will just not feel good. better slice it and then eat and be happy :D also you will feel a discomfort .. cos you will feel the taste of metal.. it will hurt for few week but believe every day the paint will get smaller and smaller till it'll just vanish and you're goin to get used to them. also a problem that i experienced - the braces might hurt just a bit your gums. but there is a great solution to this one. your dentist will give you some non rigid elastic rubber type of thing that you can put on the particular place of braces where the sharp metal is hurting your gum. but its also only in the first weeks. in a while you will not feel them at all. :)

spacers don't hurt at all. It'll feel uncomfortable for a day or so, but after that everything will be fine. You can pretty much eat anything you want when you get your spacers (braces is a different story) however, you should avoid chewing gum or eating anything too sticky like abba zabba because the spacers can fall out of your teeth.

As for braces, quiet honestly it hurts. Depending on the person, the pain usually last for a week or a month, ( lasted a month and a week for me..). and they'll feel weird at first, like your teeth and jaw will feel tight, and you'll probably have a slight speech problem and a lot of saliva in your mouth but these it'll all go away later. Just remember to brush your teeth everyday, floss, and scope. Your orthodontist will teach you how to clean your teeth and give you a braces kit which comes with the special dental floss, brush, and wax which is used for wires that poke out. Also, you'll have to go to your ortho every month to tighten your braces, and DO NOT SKIP ANY APPOINTMENTS or you'll wear your braces for a longer time.

Thats basically all you need to know, and the end results which all of us braces wearers want is worth it!
