Well i got braces 2 years ago and still have them in :( I find that the biggest problems for me are that my self confidence went down as i feel girls dont like guys with braces and also whenever my braces are adjusted a few days later the wire thats makes your teeth straight starts to move out at the back of my mouth and then it stabs me in my cheek. But what i do is ask the guy to give me some wax and then put it there usualy helps. Good luck! enjoy, lol :)

The pain when you get it tightened. I had a week of school when I got mine on.
Nothing a little night nurse can't fix though!

Also, they are quite easy to break. My orthodontist warned me of the dangers of toffee and apples, and I ended up breaking it on a chicken sandwich!

Well, I have had braces for a long time now. It is not as bad as most people say and not as painless as orthodontists say. I would have to say the worst part is getting used to have stuff on your teeth pushing against your mouth. The pain comes about 2 hours after you get them and can take up to a week to go away. I suggest advil!!!! and even cold water or frozen soda! they all help! best of luck!

First, before you go in take The recommended amount of tylonel, that should help the pain. Brush your teeth cause you dont want stains. Although I am pretty sure the dentist will give you a teeth cleaning before you get them on. Braces arent that painful. The worse part is not being able to eat all at once and your mouth taste just like metal-Thats the worse! But in a few days you can go back to eating mostle anything you want and the metal taste goes away. Stay away from sticky chewy stuff or hard stuff, although you can use judgement of that, i never broke any brackets and still ate whatever I wanted and chewed gum. Another thing is make sure you use the wax they give you. This way the braces dont hurt your gums. They wont when you first get them but when you go to sleep at night, believe me they will start getting achy so use the wax. The most important thing to remember is wear the rubber bands (if you have an over bite) and make sure you wear your retainer when its all done or it would have been for nothing!! Good Luck

There are a lot of things to consider with braces. There are types of food that will become more challenging to eat. For example, it might be easier to eat an apple you have slided. Biting into it will prove challenging. If you're a candy nut, things like gum can become an issue.

And then there are other things to deal with to, like the pain involved. But it's not too bad. When adjustments are made, you will experience soreness and discomfort for a couple days, but its a slow process so the adjustments are small. ain killers and support from family goes a long way here. The pain killer for obvious reason. The support from family in that they make meals you can readily eat with a tender jaw.

You will do fine. And when its all over and done with, you will have an amazing smile to show for it. It is worth it. My opinion. I had braces for two years in high school. Wouldn't undo it. Easier to do it in high school than in adulthood. But no matter when you choose to get it done, it is beneficial for so many reasons. Dental care is the best reason. Much easier to take care of a neat tidily lined up mouth.

You won't be able to eat anything crunchy, gooey/sticky, no drinks with carbonation (ortho. suggests gatorade), If you have sweets brush immediately after (which you're supposed to do no matter what you eat anyway). My son's braces cut the inside of his mouth. Use wax and salt water rinses.

hello, you are not alone im scared of braces too...
