I'd be interested to know if it is with hot or cold temperatures that send you through the roof!
If it is hot then that usually means that the nerve is dieing and that treatment is needed (Root canal therapy). If it is only with cold temperatures it could mean that the nerve is being irritated (do you grind your teeth or clench them?). If you do than you might benefit from something called a night-guard. This is an appliance that fits over your teeth and is soft to cushion and protect your teeth when you are sleeping. That is when most people do the most damage with clenching and grinding.
Good luck.
