I was just getting eady to go to the dentist to get some cavities filled...?!

Question: and get two extractions when I found out I'm pregnant. I think I'll be okay, but a few are getting close to getting to that point. I know that I can't have anything done until after I have the baby. I brush 3 to 4 times a day, floss at least twice if not three times (after each meal) and rinse too. Is there anything else I can do to help slow down the growth? Also, what will I be able to do if worse comes to worse?

The only thing at the dental office the would affect a pregnancy is x-rays and N2O. The anesthia won't harm the baby.

Go cold turkey have the teeth pulled without drugs

I've had a similar situation, only that I was in EXTREME agony from a bad tooth that needed to be extracted and 8 months along.
First off, I think what you're doing now is fine, and should prevent any further damage until you can get your teeth taken care of. There is a rinse on the market advertised to repair minor decay, although I'm not sure how truthful the advertising is.
Worse comes to worse, if absolutely necessary, your ob/gyn can fax your dentist a release saying it's ok to extract if needed.

Talk to the dentist - tell him you are pregnant and ask what can be done. With cavities you can try oil of cloves if they are hurting - that numbs the pain and should be available from your pharmacy.

Check with your obgyn about going to sleep. I think OK after first trimester. Not sure. I would rather have local anesthetic if I couldn't wait for the extractions. Women are pretty tough, especially if they have to do what needs to be done. Hold off as long as possible or grin and bare it. Good luck!
PS to stave off further decay...stay away from highly starched foods and sugars. easier said then done eh?
