Wisdom teeth extraction fears???!

Question: i am scheduled to get 3 wisdom teeth our at the end of the month (i only have 3. genetically advanced said the dr.) he said he doesn't like giving general anesthesia. he only does if they absolutely have to. i'll be given a strong sedative. i'll be awake, but not really. i'm terrified. i hate the dentist, i cry for fillings.i hate the feeling of shots in my mouth, i hate hearing the drilling and cracking, i'm always thinking that any minute it'll start hurting. i've been having nightmares every few nights about something going wrong with the procedure. i don't know how to calm down. i'm terrified about what could happen. what should i do? what should i expect??

I'm not gonna lie to you, it's a misareable experience. If it's really a problem for you, tell your doctor you don't want to do it without general anesthesia. If he refuses, find another oral surgeon to do the work. It really, really sucks.

I had two cut out and two pulled out at the same time. I didn't even have to take any of the pain meds they gave me. The only problem I had was trowing up once. And my harm hurt from the IV.

I am the same way. I HATE THE DENTIST but if he is doing what i think he is doing where you are somewhat out. you will be aware of whats going on but you wont care cause you will be so out of it. i had the same thing done and didn't feel any pain. honostly, talk to your dentist about your concerns, give him a call. he will make you feel better. tell him it is important that you dont want to feel any pain. when it comes down to it. you are a paying customer and your needs should be met.

I can totally understand your fears I used to have terrible dental phobia. I had to have a lot of dental work done before I got pregnant and I used a mantra and vision boards to overcome my fears. I would say "I am calm and filled with peace" the whole time I was getting work done, as well as the weeks coming up to the appt. A vision board can help you start visualizing not feeling so fearful about going to the dentist. Here's a great vision board I use on my computer.

hmmmm i thought anesthesia was a standard procedure. I got knocked out when i had mine removed through an iv. are you sure youre not going to be hooked up to an iv? if your wisdom teeth are not showing yet you probably will be knocked out because they have to cut through the gums. If they are showing quite possibly the surgeon knows whats he doing. My sister had some teeth removed for her braces and they didnt knock her out. they numbed her gums and yanked em out. Just because he doesnt like giving the anesthesia doesnt mean you cant ask...and wear earplugs. Good luck! ive never heard of someone being awake for that procedure.
