What to expect for first dental deep cleaning?!

Question: A lot of it depends on the hygienist and how much tartar you have on your teeth. I have a real gentle touch and if you don't want to get a shot to be numb, topical anesthetic can be used. It really does not have to be a painful , horrible procedure.

DONT WORRY IT WONT HURT!!!!! LOL

Expect a lot of pain. I hate to say it, but my husband went through this and he said it was terrible! :( I suggest taking some pain medicine such as tylenol before you go so you get a start before the pain starts. They will basically use thier "pick" to go deep into your gums to clean under them. I hate to hear someone else have to go through this after I heard his pain. His gums are extremely healthy now and he said it was worth it though. He also uses listerine every day, flosses everyday, and uses an Oral B spinbrush......that's all it took! Good luck and know that although it will hurt, it is necessary....

Depends on whether you will have novacaine or not. Are they cleaning your whole mouth? Are you sure you need it? Some offices do this "deep cleaning" a little too often if you know what I mean. The cost difference is substancial ! How old are you and how long has it been since youve had them cleaned?
I am a dental hygienist so I am curious
