If you had an abscess before the tooth was extracted your face would be swollen and also the infection is draining out of the socket , you should probably get some antibiotics from you dentist and take anti inflammatory painkillers, also try to rinse your mouth with some hot salty mouthwash if its not too painfull, I know how you feel, I had two teeth taken out for ortho work and ended up with infected sockets, very painfull!

Oh god was it wisdom tooth - i have that in february - don't freak me out :-(

If you had an infection presumably you were given anit biotics. If not, check with your dentist.

more than likely, you should ask dentist for some anti biotics for the infection, if he hasn't supplied them, as that's what causing the swelling.

Yeah it should go down in a couple of days

some swelling is normal.
if your whole face has ballooned, this is probably wrong and you should see a doctor

sometimes but you better the your dentist. it could be very serious

Definitely NOT okay.

Your dentist MUST see you today. Do not take NO for an answer from the receptionist.

You have to go on antibiotics. The dentist needs to identify the source of the infection and treat it.

Your situation is especially dangerous if the infection is in your upper arch.

Call your dentist first thing this morning!

Yes it is.
Your mouth has had a lot to deal with when a tooth is extracted and it could just be bruising
If it has not gone down though in 24 hrs go back to your dentist as it could be an infection which they can easily treat with anti biotics.
Good Luck

I had a molar removed about four years ago, and it looked like I had a golf ball inside of my cheek. I had no infection, but there was swelling. No worries! I'm sure you're feeling much better now.

It is normal for the face to swell after an extraction. Has the dentist given you a sheet, of what to do after an extraction. If not, why not.

I'd say it's normal, take an ibuprofen to take down the swelling and swirl some water with a teaspoon of salt in it around your mouth which soothes it alot.
Give it about 3-6 days and if it's still giving you alot of grief, go and see your dentist just to check everything is ok.
Hope this helps! =]

it depends how swollen and how you feel in yourself i had a wisdom tooth out and my cheek was so swollen skin was shiny i felt awful as if i was on another planet and had funny taste in my mouth went to hospital and had to be rushed in for op as i had developed blood poisoning and had a red rash developing. It is normal for it to swell to a certain degree but if you are concerned have bad taste in your mouth and feel unwell go to doctors
