Thanks all

I use careington dental. It is not insurance, but a discount dental program. It is highly affordable. I wanted to have dental insurance but I would have only been coveredup to $1,200 annually. Anyone who has been to the dentist lately knows that $1,200 will not go very far (unless your teeth are in excellent shape) but it wasn't enough coverage to justify buying insurance. If you look at the link, you can type in yr zipcode and it will pull up participating dentists.

If you need major work and can't afford the costs upfront, GE has a program called CareCredit- you apply to CareCredit, pick a paticipating dentist. CareCredit pays the full cost to the dentist immediately, so there are many dentists (and physicians and veterinarians) who are willing to participate in that program. But you make a payment plan between yourself and CareCredit where you have to pay a monthy installment on your bill, just for the services you had done. I think it can be broken up over 3, 6, 9 & 12 months depending on your situation. So if you had $500 worth of work done and used care credit, you could probably break that up over a six or nine month period. There is no penalty for paying your bill off early. There is no interest charged on the loan unless you fail to pay the minimum monthly payment, then they will tack on interest.

It is sort of like a credit card but the interest doesn't accumulate as long as you pay the minuimum on your bill each month. It's a program that is supposed to help people who couldn't otherwise afford medical services. But you have to make that minimum monthly payment toward your bill.

Good luck. I just had a dentist appointment today. The better you maintain your regular dental appointments, the cheaper it will be in the long run. I am looking at $6,700 worth of work (you wouldn't know it by looking at me but my back teeth are damaged from clenching and grinding my teeth and I need several crowns and a few root canals and a bridge and etc and it all adds up). Good luck in your search and good luck to the other guy looking for dental insurance.

i am going to put no answer here because i am doing the exact same thing and want to have a quick link to this question. i am a college student and work full time and am trying to pick what benefits to get and the amount of coverage i should get. good luck!

Check out Anthem (Blue Cross & Blue Shield). They usually have good insurance plans. You might also consider doing a web search for "dental insurance". It's a good way to find complaints about some companies, so you know what to be concerned about. The best idea though would be to call the dentist you want to go to and find out what insurance companies they accept and which ones give them the least amount of problems.

Doing it with the dentist being the starting point, you can be certain that your insurance won't require you to go to some quack. I was working for a company that the new insurance plan had me go to a dentist that told me stuff that I just KNEW was wrong. Didn't like that one bit. Needless to say, that was the only visit I ever made to them.

Off topic, how does someone talk to you? :P
