I need a root canal done !!!!!!!!!!?!

Question:

I need a root canal done !!!!!!!!!!?

I am starting to have dental work done, about 4 months ago i had two molars filled and and one on the outer upper right, and then after that was done after a couple of weeks I was having a lot of sensitivity to hot and cold food and liquids. I went back do the same dentist to ask them what was wrong they could not find anything wrong they just told me to give it a little more time so I decided to go to another dentist (one that I saw in the Houston Magazine voted best dentist in town) Its like an Upper Class Magazine for Houston Residents ) (I ran into the magazine) Well I made an Appt. And the dentist took some X rays and turn out the the tooth on the top was hurting b/c its was getting abcess (I think thats was its called) and that i will need a root canal. I dont have insurance and the total cost of it is 2,300 including the crown. I think its expensive but I think that its something that i have to get taken care of. So is that too much money????

Answers:

That's at the upper range, but still not uncommon.

If the root canal therapy procedure is being done by an Endodontist (a root canal specialist), their typical fee is $1000 per molar.

Crowns can indeed cost up to $1000 for a good one that has a covering of porcelain on it to make it look like a real tooth.

And $300 sounds about right for a post + core buildup.

If money is an issue, you might want to consider going to the dental school at the University of Texas in Houston. Their fees are about half that of a private dentist, but you do have to spend more time in the chair though. Another good thing about going to the dental school is that you are getting a second opinion from a dental professor.

Hope this helps.
