Dental treatment in the UK when pregnant?!

Question:

Dental treatment in the UK when pregnant?

hi, I live in ENGLAND and I am 39 weeks pregnant and I think the tooth where I had a root canal done a few years ago is infected again. When the baby's born can I get the root canal , new filling and crown all for free on the NHS as I will still be on maternity exemption? I have tried to find this info on the net but cannot get any conclusive answer

Answers:

Yes, your treatment is free up until your baby is one year old.
Bear in mind this only applies to NHS treatment and will not cover any treatment you may wish to have carried out on a private basis.
When you do manage to get an appointment to see the dentist you will need to show them proof of your pregnancy, sounds daft i know, you'd think the sight of a blooming stomach would be all the proof you need, what you actually need is a maternity exemption card, it's about the same size as your normal credit card and has a 13 digit number which the dentist has to take a note of, think you can ask your midwife/GP how to receive yours!
Take care. x x
